Peerzada: Minister of gain in the coalition of loss | Sonia, Omar have more at stake than this 'loyalist since Emergency'
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz
SRINAGAR, Feb 13: In his statement of defence, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed has communicated to Mrs Sonia Gandhi some important things in bullet points: That he has been a Congress loyalist and has never left the party in lurch since Emergency; that he has done much to keep India's flag high in the strife-torn Kashmir; that he has rehabilitated a 'militancy-hit family' in his second marriage.
Those aware of things closely include editor of a vernacular daily in Srinagar. In his complaints to readers through the columns of his daily and Police through applications, he is on record to have observed that much more than the poor Minister it was the 'militancy-hit family' that was behind sending JKLF men to his office, getting him kidnapped and thrashed at a hideout in Maisuma. His accusations have gone uncontested in the last 10 years.
When New Delhi needed men to keep its flag aflutter in Srinagar, Peer Hissam-ud-din's nephew huddled himself into the dungeons of Legislators' Hostel in Jammu. Those who performed the heroic task in turbulent times and held the for...

Opposition silence over Peerzada issue, developments 'mysterious'…! | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Feb 13: With dust appearing to be settling down on the examgate involving the name of senior Congress minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed who has been divested of the Education portfolio, both the coalition partners NC and Congress may well br trying to return to normal mode of ties in order to help run coalition smoothly . But what remains a strange and surprising aspect of the whole the controversy that while it raised a storm within the allies, it did not create any whimper, not to speak of any noise nor uproar from the entire spectrum of opposition.
Opposition camp right from the principle opposition party PDP to BJP, its split group of 7 expelled members ar...

Jammu, Feb 13: Peerzada episode far from being over has only accentuated the differences in the NC-Cong. Things have soured to such a level that both parties have started leveling allegations and charges against each.
A post pasted at the Omar Alliance page on facebook reads " I offer my opponents a bargain: if they will stop telling lies about us, I will stop telling the truth about them."
It's not clear if the post was pasted by Omar Abdullah himself but it gets credence on the fact that it has been liked by CM's advisor Mubarak Gul and he has shared it on his facebook page.
"That's our Omar Sahib…. 100% correct. God bless you and give you a long life," is t...
| | Who is impeding CM's constitutional authority? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 13: The Peerzada issue regarding his decision to submit his resignation directly to the Congress President Sonia Gandhi bypassing the Chief Minister has ruffled many feathers in the political circles of the State.
It is probably for the first time in the history of the State since 1947 that a minister has decided to bypass the CM and instead opted to submit resignation to his party President. Doesn't the legitimacy of such an action and its acceptance by the powers those be suggest that if a minister of the NC resigns from the council of ministers in future he/she would submit the letter of resignation to the NC President and not the CM who is the constitut...
| | Is Kashmir really changing? | BEYOND NEWS | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 13: Is Kashmir really changing? While nobody can be fully sure about it, the political experts do see a changing trend in the Valley.
For the first time in the past two decades the Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq has taken interest in governance issues. He took the government to task for its failure to provide basic facilities to the people. His criticism was welcomed by the Chief Minister.
Earlier former Hurriyat chairman, Professor Abdul Ghani Bhat wants to take the pro-Indian political parties along. According to him, it can speed up the resolution process. This evoked a reaction from Hizbul Mujahideen Chief, Syed Salah-ud-Din. "If pro-Indi...

JAMMU, Feb 13: The Congress party, which came into being in December 1885 as a result of the British conspiracies hatched at Shimla and London to ensure the defeat of the Indian freedom struggle and further strengthen imperialism to loot and plunder India and drain its invaluable wealth, including gold and raw material, had no respect for democratic values. Believe it or not: it is up to the esteemed readers of EARLY TIMES.
Yes, there were few public-spirited Indians in the Congress party like Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai, Aurbindo Ghose and Bipin Chandara Pal, all religiously committed to India, Indian culture, Indian civilization, Indian ethos and people's democracy...
| | Jammu in advantageous position, Congress playing dubious role | Fractured Kashmir -- I | | Neha
JAMMU, Feb 13: There was a time when the Kashmir-based party, NC, used to capture almost all the seats in the Valley and dominate the state legislature, highest law-making body, and civil secretariat, seat of the government. The NC between 1951 and 1965, the Congress between 1965 and 1975 and again the NC between 1977 and 1990 and in 1996 captured almost all the seats in Kashmir and the result was that the Valley dominated the state polity and perpetrated injustice after injustice on Jammu, thus reducing it to a nullity for all practical purposes. Kashmir used to return more members to the assembly as compared to Jammu, despite the fact that Jammu was far more superior to Kashmir bo...
