KAS officer hired TV channel cameraman to trap ARTO
CDs of STA official, RTO Jammu, ARTO Ramban, ARTO Rajouri also "under process"
3/12/2011 11:49:04 PM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz JAMMU, Mar 11: Inquiry into allegations of corruption against the suspended Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Doda-Kishtwar is likely to unravel official-media nexus to grab "prize positions" through unclean practices. Even as the investigation, ordered by Minister of Transport Qamar Ali Akhoon, on the direction of Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone, is still underway, a middle rung official in Transport Commissioner's office has been found to have engaged the cameraperson of a national television channel for the "sting operation". However, the purpose appears to be blackmailing and settling personal scores, rather than exposing corruption in government offices. BJP MLA from Basohli, Jagdish Raj Sapolia, had waved cash worth Rs 20,000 and a CD on the floor of Legislative Assembly on March 9th to substantiate his allegation that fitness certificates to old commercial vehicles were being issued in Doda district against payment of bribes. He emphasized that death of over 700 commuters in a large number of road accidents in Doda-Kishtwar area was the result of oper...

Police favour twin formula for tackling militancy
3/12/2011 11:46:32 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 12: One need not feel amazed if one compares militants with a tribe that is as good as nomadic.Ever since the rise of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir in 1989 even the police talk about militants being no less than nomadic tribes because guntoting youths keep on moving from one place to the other in search of shelter and food. Nomadic tribes move from one place to the other in search of pastures for their cattle. These nomadic tribes travel to the hilly areas alongwith their cattleheads for grazing and before the onset of the winter they return to their places in the plains. In the same fashion militants move from one area to the other. This is one of the reaso...

Dividing Jammu province on communal lines
3/12/2011 11:45:36 PM
Rustam JAMMU, Mar 12: Dixon also asked New Delhi to withdraw its Army and disband the Jammu and Kashmir State forces and State Militia subject to the need of (a) assisting the civil power in maintaining law and order, and (b) guarding the northern approaches to the Valley against possible incursion. (Indirect admission that Jammu and Kashmir part of India) For the so-called Azad Kashmir, Dixon's plan was to attach a United Nations officer to each district magistrate of the area for ensuring fair and impartial administration. What Dixon suggested was not acceptable to New Delhi. The reason: The existing district magistrates of the area had been appointed after the invasion by Pakistan. As...

Why Kashmiri leadership opposes separation of Jammu from Kashmir?
3/12/2011 11:45:17 PM
Neha JAMMU, Mar 12: The BJP, the Panthers Party and the Jammu State Morcha (JSM) are, it seems, working in tandem and taking up the issue of discrimination with Jammu in a big way. Ever since February 28, when the budget session started, these parties have been trying their best to corner the NC-Congress coalition government, exposing what it calls its misdeeds and discriminatory policies and drawing the attention of the powers-that-be in the state to the miserable plight of the people of Jammu province, including the wretched life the approximately two million refugees have been leading in this grossly ignored province. They have staged a number of walkouts during the past 13 days or so t...
