Is J&K’s economic survey jugglery of figures? | Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan | |

JAMMU, Mar 6: If the manner in which expenditure has been reported for the ongoing Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan (PMRP) is any indication, economic survey of Jammu and Kashmir for the year 2010-11 is more a jugglery of figures and less an officially approved sanctified document to be relied upon.
The seemingly erroneous compilation has been done by Department of Economics and Statistics which is under the direct control of planning ministry, presently being looked after by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. There is mismatch between expenditure figures reported by the economic survey and those reported to the union ministry of home affairs, which ironically the ministry had even quoted a few days back in the Lok Sabha.

KISHTWAR, Mar 06: Five houses were damaged completely in a snow avalanche at Ongie in Paddar area of Kishtwar Saturday. There was, however, no casualty as the inmates managed to flee to safety before the avalanche hit their houses, official sources said.
The damaged houses belonged to Ravail Singh, his brother Trilok Singh, sons of Rumail Singh, Sardar Singh, son of Mela Ram, Mehar Chand, son of Hari Lal, and Swami Raj, son of Pantoo Ram.

A patwari was today caught red handed by state vigilance organisation (SVO) while accepting bribe here.Police sources said Harminder Singh, son of Baldev Singh of Shanti
Nagar, Kunjwani, lodged a complaint with SVO, alleging therein that Deeli halqa patwari Sikandar Kumar had demanded from him a bribe of Rs 8,000 for issuing him the fard of his land at Shanti Nagar. Acting on the complaint, SVO sleuths laid a trap and apprehended the patwari red handed while accepting Rs 8,000 as bribe from Harminder.
SVO had registered a case in this connection under section 5 (2) of prevention of corruption Act read with section 161 of RPC.

Supporting stonepelters and their acts in Kashmir, hackers today defaced the website of Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust. The hackers, who have earlier hacked the websites of Sikkim
government and an Amitabh Bachchan fan website, left a message on the site of the Trust.
The message said the defacing was in retaliation to the alleged beating of some students in Indira Gandhi Dental college in Jammu for celebrating the victory of Pakistan over Canada in the World Cup cricket match.

AKHNOOR, Mar 06: One person was today apprehended by police at Khada
in Khour here for possessing PWD cement bags.Acting on a tip-off, police raided the residence of Mukesh Kumar at Khada and recovered 28 cement bags of PWD, police sources said.The bags were seized and Mukesh arrested, the sources added.
During his questioning, he told police that he had purchased the cement from a contractor.
Police had registered a case against Mukesh under section 411 and 420 of RPC and launched a manhunt to nab the contractor.

KATHUA, Mar 06:
Of the three youth, who tried to cross Ujh river on their motorcycle at Kote Punnu near here today, one drowned, while two others were rescued by locals. The youth were on their way to Kote Punnu via Nagri. As one needs to cross Ujh to go to the other side of Kote Punnu, they too tried to wade through the river waters, according to police sources.
However, when their motorcycle (JK08B/3406) reached the middle of the stream, they started drowning, the sources added. Hearing their screams, some locals rushed to their rescue. They were able to save two of them, while the third was washed away by the
