J&K IAS Babus take CAG findings 'non-seriously' | 487 inspection reports involving Rs. 745.83 crore pending for disposal | | Syed Junaid Hashmi
JAMMU, Mar 31: Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has accused IAS Babus of Jammu and Kashmir of being unable to enforce accountability and held them responsible for not protecting interest of the state government.
Pointing towards customary lying of copies of annual audit reports in both the houses of state legislature, CAG has said that IAS Babus do not take cognizance of its findings even if they are of grave nature, thereby completely negating the cause for which audit of state financial accounts is conducted every year.
CAG has stated that these Babus heading various departments do not respond, even if serious financial irregularities are reported to them. In its report for year 2009-10 tabled in the state legislature today, CAG has given tabulated detailed account of the non-seriousness of IAS Babus towards its findings.

JAMMU, Mar 31: While legislative assembly today passed a bill to set up a Property Tax Board in the state, entire opposition, which wanted certain amendments to be incorporated in it and its deferment till then, staged a walkout amid noisy scenes, terming it "anti-people and draconian".
A bill to further amend the Municipal Act and Municipal Corporation Act of 2000, was also passed.
The two bills were moved in the House by Nasir Aslam Wani -- minister of state for housing and urban development. The amendments moved by Basharat Ahmed Bukhari and Zulfikar Ali were rejected by the House when put to vote.

Jammu, Mar 31: The government today admitted that 341 persons had been subjected to extra-judicial execution in Jammu Kashmir since 1990. This was stated by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah while answering a question in the Legislative Assembly today.
Omar also made a mention of 113 people -- 99 from Poonch and 14 from Rajouri, who according to him have went missing.
