| Plight of people multiplied corresponding to wealth of politicians | | Political class failed people of J&K miserably! | | | Beyond Electioneering
Abodh Sharma
Jammu, May 3: Amidst claims, counter claims, allegations, counter allegations and a bitter war of words between the politicians that at times threatens to hit below the belt, the fact of the matter is that the pompous political class in Jammu and Kashmir has failed its people miserably and the mud- slinging over each other is nothing but a deliberate attempt to defer the attention of the voter from the issues of his vital concern.
While every third of the contesting candidates in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir is a billionaire, with the wealth of the noted politicians growing upto 500 percent since the last elections, the per capita GDP in Jammu and Kashmir has never touched double figure mark in the last 10 years. Interestingly, the per capita income in J&K in 2011 was calculated at a mere 33056, which is less than a meager Rs. 100 per day.
The unemployment rate in Jammu and Kashmir is highest amongst all north Indian states. Despite literacy rate increasing from 55.5 percent in 2001 to 68.74 percent in 2011 census, the u...

| | | | 'Renegades' at their best in India-bashing in Kupwara | | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 3: None other than the People’s Conference founder Abdul Gani Lone introduced the derogatory term of 'renegades' in Kashmir for those who, according to him, reneged on the path of 'Azadi'--- Kashmir's total separation from India. Lone, who had earlier contested the Assembly elections and taken oath in the name of Allah to protect the sovereignty and integrity of India while being sworn in as Janata Party's MLA in 1977 and a Minister in Syed Mir Qasim's Congress government in 1972, floated the tag "renegade" for the militants who deserted the guerrilla groups like Hizbul Mujahideen, JKLF and Al-Barq, and formed the counter-insurgents groups of Muslim Mujahideen...

| | | | Boycott shadow looms large over Baramulla constituency | | | | Kunal Shrivatsa
JAMMU, May 3: With polling for Baramulla Lok Sabha seat just four days away, the shadow of poll boycott is looming large in this constituency also as the electors in other two constituencies of Anantnag and Srinagar where almost 70 percent of voters chose to stay away from the booths. However, the Baramulla Constituency has the distinction of setting bench mark for at least a moderate voter turnout since 1999.
It would be interesting to watch on May 7 that how this Lok Sabha segment would be able to maintain its record of highest voter turnout among all the three constituencies of Kashmir Valley.
As the shadow of poll boycott and terrorist threats lurking around, living u...

| | | | Sharif needs to tame hawkish Gen Sharif to avoid Indo-Pak conflict | | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 3: Pakistan is not prepared to move an inch beyond its "Sheh rug" (jugular vein) stance while touching or raking up the Kashmir issue. Right from day one of the birth of the Kashmir dispute the successive Governments in Pakistan have been claiming that Kashmir for Pakistan is a jugular vein. This indicates that the very survival or existence of Pakistan without Kashmir is under threat.
What seems to have given new dimensions to Pakistan's chorus on Kashmir being its "Sheh rug" is the way its Army chief, Gen. Raheel Sharif, repeated what successive heads of Governments in Islamabad had said about Kashmir and that too when Pakistan is governed by a duly elec...
