TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Ghost of 2009 RS elections forced BJP not to escalate confrontation with NC
6/23/2014 12:01:48 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, June 22: A group of BJP leaders are working overtime to enter into alliance with arch rival National Conference because such leaders have vested interests in continuing relations with National Conference to enjoy the real power. Interestingly not only state level leader even some national leaders of the BJP are interested to have alliance with NC because they have their personal as well as business relations with the NC leaders. Credible source in the BJP said that some party leaders are working hard to give an impression to the party that developing relations with NC is in the interests of the nationalist forces in J&K. These leaders have their own interests in furthering relations with NC but they are giving it nationalist colour to rake up sentiments of those party leaders for whom national interests are priority. Credible sources said that BJP leaders including some national leaders are fearing that any conflict with National Conference would be proved counterproductive for them because NC leadership are aware of many misdeeds of BJP leaders. Early Times Report Jammu, June 22: Amid all out opposition to Hindi to be used as medium in offices for the purpose of functioning and communication by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and others in the political spectrum of Kashmir, Jammu looks on once again to a firm initiative by BJP MPs at Centre at the behest of which this directive has been promulgated, to begin with in central government offices. Jammu suffers on this front in terms of utter discrimination in the wake of the fact majority of population in this region is Hindi Knowing and lacks skills in Urdu both at educational level as well as in the offices. SSRB recruited teachers up in arms, resist 5 year service benefit to Rehber-e-Taleem
6/23/2014 12:01:35 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, June 22: Teachers who have been appointed through Service Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) are up in arms against the decision of state government to include 5 years of service in the record books of the teachers engaged under Rehbar-e-Taleem scheme (ReT). The decision has taken these teachers by surprise and they have begun mulling the option of approaching court of law as and when School Education department issues formal orders of the proposal approved by the Cabinet recently. These teachers are worried that if the government includes 5 years of the Rehbar-e-Taleem in the service records, their seniority would get jeopardised and hamper their promotion b...

No pre-poll alliance in J&K; NC, PDP, BJP, Cong to fight alone
Assembly elections-2014
6/23/2014 12:01:25 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, June 22: With all the parties making it clear that they would be contesting upcoming assembly elections all alone, it seems clear that there would now be post-poll alliances but no pre-poll arrangement for winning elections. The four major parties, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), National Conference (NC), People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Congress would all be contesting assembly polls without forging any alliances. Congress did make a last minute effort to reach out to its estranged coalition partner PDP, which recently had leads from 41 Assembly segments in recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, failed to yield desired results. Ex-Minister and Congress leader...

Cong likely to snap ties with NC
6/23/2014 12:01:14 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, June 22: As the Congress party is preparing to announce list of probable candidates for upcoming Assembly elections, it is likely to snap its ties with National Conference. There will be no pre-poll alliance of Congress party with the National Conference as grass root leaders of both the parties are against this thought. Sources in Congress party said that party workers and leaders are of the opinion that going for pre-poll alliance with National Conference (NC) will prove disastrous for the party and it is in the better interest to go in polls alone. "But there is an opinion in the leadership of the party in the state that they could facilitate friendly conte...

When asked about the agenda of his meeting with PDP patron, Azad said: "It was just a courtesy call and no politics was discussed in our meeting. 6/23/2014 12:01:01 AM
Bivek Mathur Jammu, June 22: With slow execution of projects by the Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) in Jammu, the condition of the winter capital is going from bad to worse, though a hefty amount is shown in papers to be used for giving a facelift to the city. Majority of the projects taken up by ERA with ADB/Central/State Governments during the year 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 under ADB Loan 2331 are till date awaiting their completion despite spending crores of rupees on these projects. The same has come to fore through an RTI reply filed by this scribe with number PM/JKUSDIP/ERA/J/2159-92 on 22.04.2014. The RTI reply reads that under Tranche-1, ADB loan 2331, for providing, la...

Rana plays to galleries at Nagrota
6/23/2014 12:00:40 AM
Early Times Report NAGROTA, June 22: The National Conference provincial president for Jammu, Devender Singh Rana while addressing a gathering comprising mainly of panchs and sarpanchs in a Nagrota village said that NC does not believe in myopic or partisan politics. Rana, it seems is either feigning ignorance or is playing to galleries for political reasons. NC, history has proved it, was always interested in power. It tendered a written apology to Maharaja Hari Singh in 1947 for power and in 1975 shook hands with its `worst enemies' after sacrificing a 22-year-old movement in lieu of power. In 1986 it forged an alliance with Congress to regain power and became part of to make Omar a ...

Development works stalled as NC fails to recover from Shock
6/22/2014 11:49:47 PM
Shakeel A Khan SRINAGAR, June 22: It seems that National Conference led government is so shell shocked that it has forgotten about the developmental programmes of the state. The government seems to be in slumber as the people in the corridors of power are apprehensive about the defeat in the upcoming assembly elections. It is worth mentioning and surprising as well that the month of June is about to be followed by July but the macdamization of the roads in Kashmir valley hasn't started. Even the vital roads of the valley, including the ones of the Srinagar city, have failed to draw the attention of the authorities. "The people at the helm of affairs claim tall that they have left no ...

6/22/2014 11:49:35 PM
Avinash Azad JAMMU, June 22: Owing to Lackadaisical approaches of Power Development Department (PDD) at sector number 2 of Durga Nagar, four transformers have got damaged in the last 15 days. Residents of the locality said that the transformers are getting damaged due to over and un-disclosed load. "There is nexus between linemen and some un-disclosed consumers of PDD, which is causing huge inconvenience to the residents, as power supply has remained disrupted for last four days", said Tarun Sharma, a local adding that the authorities should pay surprise visit to check nexus of power pilferage. "A 400 KVA transformer is supplying power to more than 500 houses. Being aware about the load...

Ministers of constituencies
No taker for Azad's suggestion
6/22/2014 11:29:31 PM
Rustam JAMMU, June 22: It was some two years ago that then Union Health Minister and former JKPCC president Ghulam Nabi Azad advised the Congress ministers in the state to behave like ministers by taking care of the needs of the people of the state and not focusing attention only on their respective constituencies. He gave this advice on the bank of river Tawi during a function organized on the occasion of installation of life size statue of Maharaja Hari Singh near a point where the flyover connects with Tawi Bridge. Azad had, in fact, snubbed the Congress ministers and told them that if the Congress was to put up a good show in the elections, they had to crisscross the state to listen ...

Empowerment of Panchayats proves 'hoax'
Sarpanches not being consulted for execution of developmental works
6/22/2014 11:28:37 PM
Avinash Azad JAMMU, June 22: Notwithstanding NC-Congress coalition government's claims of having empowered Panchayats, allegations have surfaced of public representatives not being consulted by government agencies before executing development works. Unholy nexus between contractors, departments and politicians is claiming huge toll on state exchequer, since without estimate, works are being executed in rural areas. Sarpanch, Rakh Gadi-Garh, Vijay Sharma told Early Times that without any order from government agencies including Rural Development Department and PWD, construction work of two lanes was executed in ward number 4, after lapse of one month the works remained un-completed.
