TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Winter chill or pre occupation with polls preventing BJP this year…?
Hoisting tricolour at Lal Chowk on R-Day
1/21/2012 12:23:24 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 20: With countdown having begun for sprucing up preparations of Republic Day scheduled with loads of nationalism for all the political parties in J&K, BJP this time appears to be in a state of complete 'freeze', all thanks to chill of harsh winter conditions which has paralysed even normal life in Kashmir Valley. The Day is only week's time away but this time there seems to be no whimper , leave alone the loud call for unfurling national tricolor at historic 'hot spot' Lal Chowk among the saffron brigade. In contrast to the political clamour that prevailed last year days ahead of Republic Day with much hyped Tiranaga Yatra, it is a quiet scene this year in BJP corridors. One wonders at this contrast scene but it is not surprising, given the fact BJP's Kashmir policy hangs around such boisterous programme in which they try to depict it is the only party which is filled with sentiments of nationalism, patriotic fervor , and it is only on account of its efforts that Kashmir continues to be an integral part of the country. It is surprising no national lev...

All NHPC project heads in the state from outside
1/21/2012 12:22:56 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 20: In complete disregard to the agreements reached upon earlier with the state government, National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has engaged 99% outsiders on class A, B, C and D levels in all the projects in Jammu and Kashmir which is likely to generate public debate in coming days. After controversy over illegally operating major Jammu and Kashmir based Power projects, the ratio and nature of employment being provided to the locals by NHPC has become yet another contentious issue. Though the NHPC earns 52% of its total revenue from the Jammu and Kashmir based power projects being run by it, there is not even a single person from J&K on the ...

Despite being in coalition, Wani 'appeals' for help
Send ministers to snow hit towns of Doda - - - Restore internal links immediately
1/21/2012 12:22:44 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 20: In what can be seen as making cries in the wilderness, senior Congress leader and former minsiter Abdul Majid Wani is trying to 'stir' and shake a government which is in deep slumber that place like Doda exists where people need goevrnment attention and help. Ironical enough is the fact that Wani is forced to make loud calls and 'frantic appeals' to a dispassionate government of which his party is a partner.Wani has asked the sitting ministers to visit areas affected by snowfall and see for themselves the plight of people. Dissatisfied over day by day worsening situation in whole of erstwhile Doda district, Abdul Majid Wani MLA Doda, made an appeal to the...

Fraudulent withdrawal of relief, If dug up, can open Pandora's Box
Some Relief Organisation employees already facing allegations of corruption
1/21/2012 12:22:07 AM
Bharat Bhushan Jammu, Jan 20: The fraudulent withdrawal of cash relief by a migrant, as detected by crime branch (CB) of police yesterday, is not an isolated case. Earlier also, migrants have been booked for such offences. If CB takes a little pain to dig the case further by scrutinising the record of the past two decades of relief organisation (RO), it is sure to open the pandora's box. The scam thus unearthed may turn out to be the biggest ever in the state. CB Thursday booked Shadi Lal Pandita of Jagti for having withdrawn about Rs 30 lakh of relief money by fraud from the government treasury to secure unfair gain. Under the migrant category, one family is entitled to only one relief ...

Coalition worried over PDP's popularity in border regions
1/21/2012 12:21:35 AM
Early Times Report rajouri, Jan 20: The growing popularity of Peoples Democratic party (PDP) in the border region of Poonch-Rajouri has been giving sleepless nights to the coalition partners. Rajouri has shocked Congress and National Conference. It has taken a heavy toll of NC especially. The latest example is the entry of Chowdhary Qamer Hussain of Rajouri in the party fold who was earlier associated with Congress and had contested on Congress ticket from Rajouri in 2002 assembly elections, but had finished second at that time. Qamer is not alone in the region who joined PDP in the past few months, National Conference has already suffered a big loss by losing its influential cadres in...

And he frequently tweeted about his plight to his nearly 100,000 followers on Twitter. Incredible! Stranded passengers from Kashmir valley get "priority" for food & shelter
Inclement weather condition in J&K
1/21/2012 12:20:46 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 20: It may sound sarcastic but true! As usual stranded passengers from Kashmir valley are getting priority in getting facilities like food and shelter. The political slogan of discrimination raised often by Jammu based parties in terms of entire Jammu region getting 'second class' treatment is a live instance at General Bus Stand, here. According to eyewitnesses, the stranded passengers from different districts across the state are being "categorize" by the government while distributing free food and other essential facilities. Hundreds of passengers are stranded since past one week due to closure of Jammu-Srinagar national highway and also roads leading t...

Valley woes
1/21/2012 12:19:50 AM
Early Times Report srinagar, Jan 20: More than 2500 vehicles are still stranded on the Jammu-Srinagar road although the authorities said over 180 of these had crossed the Jawahar Tunnel towards the Valley till 5 pm. today. It should not be difficult for anyone to guess the number of days it would take 2500 vehicles to reach their destination if the pace of vehicular traffic on the highway remains like this. The Jammu-Srinagar road has remained closed for the last many days because of heavy snowfall and given the topography of the areas through which the road passes it is always to be expected that the highway cannot be kept open round the year because of the vagaries of weather. It is de...
