Winter chill or pre occupation with polls preventing BJP this year…? | Hoisting tricolour at Lal Chowk on R-Day | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 20: With countdown having begun for sprucing up preparations of Republic Day scheduled with loads of nationalism for all the political parties in J&K, BJP this time appears to be in a state of complete 'freeze', all thanks to chill of harsh winter conditions which has paralysed even normal life in Kashmir Valley. The Day is only week's time away but this time there seems to be no whimper , leave alone the loud call for unfurling national tricolor at historic 'hot spot' Lal Chowk among the saffron brigade. In contrast to the political clamour that prevailed last year days ahead of Republic Day with much hyped Tiranaga Yatra, it is a quiet scene this year in BJP corridors.
One wonders at this contrast scene but it is not surprising, given the fact BJP's Kashmir policy hangs around such boisterous programme in which they try to depict it is the only party which is filled with sentiments of nationalism, patriotic fervor , and it is only on account of its efforts that Kashmir continues to be an integral part of the country. It is surprising no national lev...

| | Fraudulent withdrawal of relief, If dug up, can open Pandora's Box | Some Relief Organisation employees already facing allegations of corruption | | Bharat Bhushan
Jammu, Jan 20: The fraudulent withdrawal of cash relief by a migrant, as detected by crime branch (CB) of police yesterday, is not an isolated case. Earlier also, migrants have been booked for such offences. If CB takes a little pain to dig the case further by scrutinising the record of the past two decades of relief organisation (RO), it is sure to open the pandora's box. The scam thus unearthed may turn out to be the biggest ever in the state.
CB Thursday booked Shadi Lal Pandita of Jagti for having withdrawn about Rs 30 lakh of relief money by fraud from the government treasury to secure unfair gain.
Under the migrant category, one family is entitled to only one relief ...

srinagar, Jan 20: More than 2500 vehicles are still stranded on the Jammu-Srinagar road although the authorities said over 180 of these had crossed the Jawahar Tunnel towards the Valley till 5 pm. today. It should not be difficult for anyone to guess the number of days it would take 2500 vehicles to reach their destination if the pace of vehicular traffic on the highway remains like this.
The Jammu-Srinagar road has remained closed for the last many days because of heavy snowfall and given the topography of the areas through which the road passes it is always to be expected that the highway cannot be kept open round the year because of the vagaries of weather.
