Massarat refers to Omar, Krishna to justify 'freedom struggle' | He stayed around his home, moved on bike, uploaded FaceBook for 4 months | | Ahmed Ali Fayyaz
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Oct 19: Hurriyat (G) General Secretary, Massarat Alam Bhat, who carried the tag of Kashmir's most wanted separatist activist as also a huge cash reward on his head, was "underground" in Police records until yesterday. Now in Police custody, Alam has revealed that for all the last four months he had stayed in his Zainadar Mohalla locality, besides houses of his relatives, used a motorcycle to hide his identification on the streets and uploaded incendiary data and videos on FaceBook without any fear of a Police raid.
Highly placed authoritative sources, associated with the interrogation of the detained Vice Chairman of Muslim League and Hurriyat (G) functionary, revealed to Early Times that Massarat Alam remained neither defensive nor apologetic during his sustained questioning.
In order to justify his association with the Kashmir "freedom struggle", Alam even referred to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's recent controversial statement over Jammu & Kashmir state's accession to India. Sources said that the detained separatist activist poi...

What have separatists gained by on-going agitation? | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 19: The on-going agitation in Kashmir today completed four months and twelve days. While the loss of lives cannot be compensated by any means, the separatists believe they have succeeded in making a strong political statement this summer.
Life came to a halt on June 7 when separatists called for a strike to protest arrival of Prime Minister in Srinagar. Since then strikes became a regular feature. The government responded by imposing curfew every now and then. The one time paradise on earth lost its tourist season and education to strikes and curfews. More than 110 persons lost their lives and around 1500 police personnel (CRPF men included) sustained injurie...
| | CU needs Jammu-base academician as its first Vice-Chancellor | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 19: Reports emanating from New Delhi suggest that the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry is contemplating the appointment of a non-academician as Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu. These reports, if correct, do not auger well for the people of Jammu province, including students, who have been fighting since 2009 for the appointment of a Jammu-based academician as the first Vice-Chancellor of the sanctioned Central University of Jammu.
It is strange that the people of Jammu province have to fight every time for getting their demands conceded. First they fought against those who tinkered with the earlier decision and transferred the Cent...
| | Ultras sighted at Pak's Saidanwali post | Alert on IB | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 19: A high alert was sounded all along the International Border (IB) following intelligence inputs that three to four Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were camping in Pakistan's Saidanwali border post to infiltrate into the Indian territory.
The inputs got authenticated with the wireless intercepts of a conversation between two militant commanders, highly placed sources told The Early Times.
Sources said there were confirmed reports of three to four foreign militants of LeT having reached Pak's Saidanwali post, situated across Chamblyal in Ramgarh sub-sector of Samba.
Saidanwali was a launching pad and militants were in wait for an opportune moment to make an infiltra...
| | Life on LoC: From dusk to dawn, no one is seen in villages except troops | | | BHARAT BHUSHAN
EARLY TIMES REPORT
MENDHAR, POONCH (near LoC), Oct 19: Despite the border truce, troops here are on high alert day in, day out, no matter what the weather is like, ready to take on infiltrators. The night in this part of the country is different.
From dusk to dawn, no one is seen in the villages close to the Line of Control (LoC) except for jawans at ambush points carved out in thick bushes and on possible infiltration routes. Alertness is in the air here. Even locals prefer to stay away from the ambush areas during night hours as they fear they may be mistaken for militants and killed.
"The days, before the mountain passes are covered with snow, are very crucial here. W...
| | Issue of J&K Accession: And now it's SM Krishna's turn | | | RUSTAM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 19: Foreign Minister SM Krishna's ludicrous assertion that Jammu and Kashmir and Mysore were identical cases created an impression that the accession of the state to India was conditional. It was not. The Indian Independence Act of 1947 under which Muslim Pakistan came into being nowhere envisaged conditional accession. In fact, it could not provide for conditional accession because it was not within the purview of the British Parliament, which enacted the Independence Act. Besides, the Independence Act didn't want the princely states in India to remain in a "state of suspense" and uncertainty. It vested in the rulers of the princely states unbridled a...
| | After RSS, BJP also joins oust Omar campaign | | | ET REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 19: After the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), its political wing BJP has also joined the oust Omar campaign by launching the nation-wide campaign against him. EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 19: BSNL blues by way of erroneous operational networking are no new for mobile phone customers in J&K. Sometimes these come as shocking only to offend and bother subscribers as uncalled for worries.
Going by its overall track record, the BSNL has again goofed-up and this time around the error has unnecessarily created a sense of suspicion among the customers.
Last month's mobile phone bills issued by BSNL came like a shocker to subscribers as several of them were charged for Short Message Service (SMS) which is under a blanket ban (outgoing as well as incoming except service related SMSes) for the last over three months in the state.
