Ashura processions foiled in city centre, mourners arrested
11/15/2013 10:54:14 PM
Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Nov 15: Police used force and arrested scores of Shia mourners near the Clock Tower (Ghanta Ghar) in the summer capital of the state while foiling their procession on the occasion of Ashura (10th day of Muharram) being carried out in the city centre. Meanwhile, authorities imposed severe restrictions in the areas of downtown Srinagar in order to ensure incident free Ashura processions across the city today. Life got paralyzed in dozens of areas of downtown Srinagar with people forced to remain indoors. In the uptown, restrictions were imposed in the Abi Guzar area falling just few metres away from Lal Chowk, the city centre. 11/15/2013 10:52:54 PM
Syed Junaid Hashmi JAMMU, Nov 15: With State Government unable to find a way out of financial mess, State Financial Corporation (SFC) despite being in doldrums continues to redress needs of politically well-connected business aspirants. Corporation is getting bad to worse yet it is disbursing heavy loans and advances to applicants, well-connected in the State administration and above all enjoying political patronage of NC and Congress leaders. According to official records available with Early Times, the Corporation is suffering from heavy cumulative losses amounting to Rs. 172.56 crore. The losses have so far remained un-recovered. What actually doomed the corporation was the turmoil th...

Azad, Omar take pride in governance deficit
11/15/2013 10:52:46 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 15: With eye on the 2014 elections both coalition partners-National Conference and Congress have been making tall claims of "development" during their five years of rule. The leadership of both the parties project their achievements rather put their claims for the "development" of the state during last five years- something which is not reflected on ground by any means. The National Conference led by Omar takes credit for the 'development' and 'progress' the state has made during last five years while Ghulam Nabi Azad attributes the development of the state to the liberal funding of the Central Government in implementation of the Centrally Sponsored Schemes...

When is the best time for dialogue with Pakistan or separatists?
11/15/2013 10:52:07 PM
ET Report JAMMU, Nov 15: Kashmiri separatist leader, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq has again indicated readiness to a dialogue engagement with the Centre provided the same is held on the lines of Vajpayee-separatists dialogue during the NDA rule. What Atal Bihari Vajpayee said during his tenure as the Prime Minister of India is that dialogue can be held with anybody within the contours of 'Insaniyat' (Humanity). Nobody can dispute that democracies as nation states have chosen to become in the modern times, cannot say no to a dialogue even if the same is to be held with the nation's sworn enemies. Wars and belligerence are no alternative to peace and dialogue. Any way forward in India-Pakistan rela...

11/15/2013 10:51:41 PM
Asif Iqbal Naik KISHTWAR, Nov 15: In a bid to sort out the serious differences between the people of the two communities of Kishtwar district that emerged in the aftermath of August 9 Kishtwar communal clashes, the visit of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad's two day visit to Kishtwar paid dividends as he (Azad) successfully managed to bring the people of both the communities together during his five hour long mammoth public meeting at New Deputy Commissioner (DC) Office Complex Kishtwar and also during a dinner organized by Congress MLA Ghulam Mohammad Saroori at his residence in which over 200 people from both the communities associated wi...

Temple Bill faces 'inevitable' fate, likely to be shelved 'for now'
11/15/2013 10:52:00 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 15: Much hyped Hindu Shrines Bill has faced the inevitable fate , all thanks to the ever elusive commitments of NC led coalition Government which has played similar political games with many a such matters where it did not mean 'business'. Having faced the course of a moving ball in the field , the ball which finally lay in the hands of the Select Committee is in all probability to remain stand still as there are no chances of the Bill being taken up for passage under the present dispensation which has been tossing it up for its entire tenure. Sources said the bill which stands unmoved from the position where it stood when it was introduced in the Lower Hous...
