Ahmed Ali Fayyaz SRINAGAR, Dec 11: Senior National Conference (NC) leader and Minister for Rural Development, Law & Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar, had a narrow escape when militants attacked his cavalcade at his old residence of Zaldagar in Srinagar downtown. One of the Minister's Personal Security Officers (PSOs) got killed and three more escort personnel and a civilian sustained injuries in the guerrilla attack that happened in this capital city after a long spell of peace. Informed sources told Early Times that Ali Mohammad Sagar reached Zaldagar, in densely populated Nawab Bazar area of Srinagar downtown at arounf 7.00 p.m this evening to attend the engagement ceremony of his niece. Even as Sagar traveled alongwith his PSOs and escort and many of his relatives were waiting for his arrival, he had informed neither District Police nor Security Wing of J&K Police about his scheduled programme in the evening. Attack happened in Sgr for which Abdullahs advocate AFSPA revocation
12/12/2011 12:52:34 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 11: There can be nothing more than this to serve as an eye opener for 'politically over ambitious' yet immature Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who simply refuses to budge from his stand on revocation of AFSPA. While CM stands firm and his father Dr Farooq Abdullah supporting him blindly over the issue, one of the seniormost leader in the second line of organisation Ali Mohammad Sagar had a miraculous escape while armed militants brazenly dared attack his cavalcade. The militants swooped into action in an area which is being strongly advocated by the Adbullahs to be the first district from where AFSPA should be removed. Zaldgaar falls in the heart of Srinagar ...

NC MLA takes electricity to graveyard
Zindiyan nu daanga, murdiyan nu baanga
12/12/2011 12:52:05 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 11: Amitabh Bachan's 1981 Laawaris was a super hit. When the harsh reality of being a bustard dawns on him, he goes to bar to have a drink. He sees a man crying for his dead father. An angry Amitabh says: "Saalay zindoon ki parwah nahi kartay hain aur murdoon par aansoon bahatay hain" (They don't care for the living and weep for the dead). This is exactly what the MLA from Batmaloo has done. A few meters from his ancestral residence is a graveyard. Some famous people are buried there. The prominent among them is the famous physician, Dr Ali Jan, former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad's father-in-law and a highly respected local, Dr Muhammad Ramzan. Duri...

Due to their knowledge of border topography, Kashmiris in Pak militant camps act as guides
12/12/2011 12:47:22 AM
BHARAT BHUSHAN JAMMU, Dec 11: Mainly because of their deep knowledge of the topography on this side of the Line of Control (LoC), many of the Kashmiri youth, who are camping in militant training camps across the border, have been chosen to act as guides for the Pak ultras as and when they are pushed into the Indian territory to keep the pot boiling in Kashmir. Kashmiris are well-versed with the safer infiltration routes and can be of great help to the infiltrating militants to avoid army contact. They can take the infiltrators from the areas where there is less, or almost no presence of troops. The decision to engage Kashmiris as guides was taken by militant commanders in Pakistan after ...

'Party ruined by high command decisions'
12/12/2011 12:46:00 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 11: In politics nothing remains permanent , not even affiliations and association when it comes to grabbing the 'golden' offers. But there are certain stalwarts who have proved this theory wrong and even in present times when only power politics sways the politicians, such leaders stay firm. Veteran politician Prof Chaman Lal Gupta can be counted as one in that category who, dismissing and defying the party high command's decision of 'expulsion' has chosen to remain part and parcel of BJP-a party he has groomed and nourished for decades. The conviction is so deep rooted that any rumour and speculations about possibility of his joining any other party or floa...

Return of displaced Hindus to Kashmir the only problem
Seditionists Pampered -- II
12/12/2011 12:44:33 AM
RUSTAM JAMMU, Dec 11: What exactly ails Kashmir? Who deserves New Delhi's attention? Who needs to be conciliated and won over? Who are the actual sufferers? Whose human rights have been violated in Kashmir? The worst form of communalism and fanaticism ails Kashmir. An intolerant and regressive ideology has been reigning supreme in the Valley since 1947. Ever since then, Kashmir has been witnessing a hate-campaign against the "non-Muslims" ever since then, Kashmir has been witnessing the process of religious cleansing; ever since then, the Valley has been witnessing persecution of minorities. In fact, certain elements in Kashmir have already accomplished what they wanted to accomplish - to...

Omar raking up AFSPA to 'relieve pressure' on him, writes Gen Shankar
Candid Reflection
12/12/2011 12:42:44 AM
NEHA JAMMU, Dec 11: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who has miserably failed as an administrator and proved by his actions that he is not a mature politician, is being roundly criticised by the friends and well-wishers of India. There is hardly any objective commentator and dispassionate Kashmir-watcher who has not taken on Omar Abdullah and rejected out-of-hand his controversial demand seeking revocation of AFSPA. However, it is the former Chief of the Army Staff, General Shankar Roychowdhury, who has really put things in perspective and accused Omar Abdullah of "seeking a diversionary measure to relieve the pressures on him, in this case by raising the issue of AFSPA". In fact, he has wri...
