CB finds Minister, BOSE officials involved in Examgate
Peerzada's son migrated to Humhama school; Budgam office bypassed in appointment of exam staff; SP School's math expert filled up answers; Lady academic officer absconding in Delhi; Minister's exit being discussed with AICC
2/8/2012 11:52:49 PM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz SRINAGAR, Feb 8: Senior Congress leader and Minister of Education, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, and Chairman of Jammu & Kashmir State Board of School Education (BOSE), Dr Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, are among nearly half-a-dozen government functionaries who have been found by Crime Branch involved in the unfair means scandal involving the Cabinet Minister's foster son, Imam Souban Bhat, in the year 2009. Under pressure from different quarters, including public outcry over the academic scam, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is understood to be taking up the matter of action against the Minister with the Congress high command in New Delhi. Highly placed authoritative sources told Early Times that Crime Branch (CB) has finally completed and handed over to Chief Minister findings of its "preliminary inquiry" into media reports which alleged that Minister incharge Education Peerzada Sayeed, then Secretary and now Chairman of BOSE, Dr Bashir Sheikh, and other officials had facilitated and later covered up use of unfair means by Imam Souban in the Matriculation examination of November...

Involved in "theft" of timber, senior IPS officer publicly proclaims his honesty
2/8/2012 11:51:35 PM
Bharat Bhushan JAMMU, Feb 8: Liars often use phrases emphasising the validity of their statements, like "I swear by God", "to tell the truth" and "to be perfectly honest". The truthful people, however, do not need to go that far. A senior IPS officer often uses these phrases while boasting of his "marvellous" achievements. During his tenure as DIG in Srinagar, he was known for lying to his field officers whenever it came the turn of going to encounter sites. He would give instructions to then SP operations and other juniors from his cozy bedroom while pretending to be at the encounter site. When cops exchanged bullets with militants, he enjoyed TV programmes, a senior police officer sa...

ML flays Geelani for his Delhi meetings
Changing Kashmir
2/8/2012 11:51:14 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 8: The writing on the wall is clear. Kashmir is changing and changing very fast. Gone are the days when political leaders would get away with anything. A person of Syed Ali Geelani's stature is keenly watched, criticized and even ridiculed in today's Kashmir. A constituent of Hurriyat (G) has the gut to dissociate itself from Geelani's political activities in New Delhi. The Hurriyat (G) chairman is currently in New Delhi. He met chairman of Kashmir Committee, Ram Jethmalani. He also met some leaders of the BJP including film star Shatrugun Sinha. Geelani's activities in New Delhi did not go well with a constituent of the conglomerate headed by Geelani. Musli...

Congress, PM Working Group and West Pakistan refugees
Fake Secularism
2/8/2012 11:50:43 PM
Rustam JAMMU, Feb 8: The authorities in Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir consistently assert that the recommendations of the Prime Minister's Working Groups are state-centric, and not Kashmir-centric. They always say that the Working Groups had recommended that the refugees from West Pakistan could be given domicile certificates so that they could lead a dignified life in the state. These are wrong assertions. There is nothing in the reports in this regard. Similarly, there was nothing for the refugees from West Pakistan in the report submitted by all-party committee to the state Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, in 2007. This Congress-Headed committee, which rejected outright the suggestion th...

Hats off to the Ladakhi Congress leadership
Matter Of Shame
2/8/2012 11:49:40 PM
Neha JAMMU, Feb 8: It must remain a matter of shame for the Jammu-based Congress leaders and ministers that they have never ever taken any initiative whatever to project the problems the people of Jammu province have been facing since 1947. The fact of the matter is that the people of Jammu province have come to the conclusion that the "Jammu Congress leadership has sold their interests to the Kashmiri leadership for the promotion of their own vested interests". They appear quite right when viewed in the light of the fact that the senior Congress leader and Deputy Chief Minister lobbied with New Delhi only a few days ago and got for the Kashmir's Dal Lake an additional package of over Rs 3...

Kashmiri youth disillusioned with militancy want to lead violence free life
2/8/2012 11:49:15 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 8: Notwithstanding the efforts of Hurriyat and other separatists factions in Valley to regroup the youth for a 1989 type secessionist movement in Kashmir, the majority of Kashmiri youth is now disillusioned with militancy as well as violence and want to lead a peaceful and prosperous life. The common man in Kashmir who has suffered a lot over 23 years of proxy war sees the gun his worst enemy which has been the root cause of his destruction and devastation. The Kashmiris now realise that taking to arms for socalled Azadi was not a right decision as it gave them nothing except a bad name and hatred, said GA Mir an engineer by profession. ``We suffered a lot ...

Army Chief & ISI head seek judicial cover against any Pak move to sack them
2/8/2012 11:49:00 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 8: Following opposition by the civil society to any move to put Pakistan under the Army rule the old order in which the Army Chief would fix the age of the civilian Government seems to have changed. The change is there but not to the extent in which the civilian regime has assumed powers to fix the age of the Army Chief in Pakistan. The change is evident from a petition, that has been admitted by the Supreme Court in Pakistan, against the perceived move to sack the Army Chef, Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, and the ISI Chief, Lt. Gen. Ahmed Shuja Pasha. Though the petition is said to be the outcome of the memo controversy in which the Pakistan President, Asif Ali ...
