Farooq’s IPL cricket salvo is directed to win back Kashmir
4/22/2010 12:09:47 AM
ABID SHAH EARLY TIMES REPORT NEW DELHI, APR 21: Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah's attempts to dabble into Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket affairs are indeed guided by his desire to take the high visibility IPL cricket shows to his home State. He has expressed the desire that Jammu and Kashmir be given a chance to host IPL matches. Abdullah has been taking keen interest in IPL controversy ever since his former colleague in Central Council of Ministers Shashi Tharoor got embroiled in the Kochi team controversy. And, in fact, Farooq Abdullah has been first to express the view that Tharoor should resign in view of the unseemly row over the way the Kochi team won the franchise through Minister's alleged support. Ever since media has been lapping up whatever Farooq Abdullah has to say about IPL. In a clever move the senior Union Minister from Jammu and Kashmir has taken an equivocal stand where he wants a clean up in the IPL cricket which may not necessarily mean the removal of at IPL cricket commissioner Lalit Modi from his post. This stand taken by A...

‘Have control, mgmt at pumping stations’
4/22/2010 12:09:36 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 21: If the concern of the PHE and Irrigation Minister Taj Mohi-u-Din over functioning of the pumping stations were to be taken seriously, Jammu areas which have been reeling under acute water scarcity are in for some respite this gruelling summer . But the minister expressed this concern in plush and cozy atmosphere of an 'elite' and highly 'mechanized' conference of the engineers this evening in a hotel. He appeared to mean business when he stressed on having 'control' and proper management of using valves, something which he suggested can ensure regulated if not regular supply of drinking water to various areas in the city. It was no press conferen...

4/22/2010 12:09:11 AM

The weather remained pleasant throughout the day as the drizzle continued till this evening. For the past many days, there was no relief from the hot and humid weather prevailing in the city. The power cuts and erratic water supply had made the lives of people all the more miserable in some areas. The state government had announced chang...

KUNAL SHRIVATSA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 20 Even as Jammu city continues to churn out tonnes of solid and bio-medical waste every day, the establishment of a Solid Waste Treatment Plant here is still a distant dream, thanks to the lackadaisical approach of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and allied agencies. The fate of much-needed and much-ambitious treatment plant still hangs in balance due to the "indecisiveness" on part of the two prestigious executing agencies viz JMC and Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA). It is estimated that about 300 metric tonnes of solid waste and 1.2 tonnes of bio-medical waste is being churned out in the city everyday. The project to set up a...
