SRINAGAR, May 26: Last time it was not Chief Minister Omar Abdullah but JKPCC chief Saifuddin Soz who announced allocation of the portfolios of the Council of Ministers. This time, it is the AICC General Secretary incharge of Jammu & Kashmir who has publicly announced that there would be a Cabinet reshuffle in the state immediately after the Panchayat election process was over. Chief Minister, and almost everybody in top echelons of the ruling National Conference (NC), in fact, had been avoiding direct reply to this question whenever inquisitive scribes attempted a digging.
With the three vacancies (two of Congress and one of NC) existing in the Council of Ministers, speculations of a minor expansion or reshuffle in the Cabinet have been blinking for the last over one year. During the process, one of the potential contenders from Congress has been physically incapacitated. JAMMU, May 26: A PHE employee today beat up a man and his son at Gurah Brahmana near here for voting against his will in panchayat elections.
In the panchayat polls held Wednesday at Gurah Brahmana, PHE employee Tarsem Lal had asked his tenant Romesh Kumar to vote in favour of his candidate.
However, when he came to know that Romesh had cast his vote against his will, he beat him up this morning. When his son Anshu tried to save him, he too was beaten.

JAMMU, May 26: A wireless conversation between two militants, which was intercepted by forces today, suggested that the condition of LeT district commander Habib Gujjar alias Abu Salman, who had fled in an injured condition during a gunbattle with troops in Loharpura woods of Doda on May 24 night, was critical.
Habib's deputy Mohammad Ishaq Lone was killed in the encounter. Though he was wounded badly, he had managed to make good his escape.
Official sources said forces today intercepted a wireless conversation between two militants in Kishtwar and found out that Habib's condition was serious.A massive operation was on in the area in his search, the sources added.

JAMMU, May 26: A woman was today arrested by police at Janipura here for allegedly forcing a 15-year-old girl to sell sex.The woman, whom police sources identified as Santosh Parihar of Janipura, was cooling her feet in the Domana police station lock up.
The girl was today allegedly sent by the woman with two motorcycle-borne youth to have sex with them, the sources added.

Two JeM militants, including a self-styled divisional commander of the outfit, were today killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.Two militants -- Qari Zubair, a Pakistani national and Imran, a local resident -- were killed in the fierce gun battle with a joint team of police and Army, official sources said.
They said the encounter occurred following specific information about the presence of a group of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JEM) militants in a house in Keller in the south Kashmir district, following which the area was cordoned off.

JAMMU, May 26: Of the unknown number of youth, who were Wednesday evening washed away by the strong Chenab river currents after their i-10 car had fallen into it at Seri near Ramban, the body of one was today fished out by police.
The car fell into the river Wednesday at about 7.30 pm and it took police over 16 hours to locate the car in the mighty river.
One body was found trapped under the car seat. It belonged to Salim, son of Wali Mohammad of Satwari.
SP, Ramban, Anil Magotra said they did not know about the exact number of youth sitting in the ill-fated car (JK02AJ/3472), but identity of the two had been confirmed.

Srinagar, May 26 (KNS): The High Court has directed NHPC authorities to deposit money on account of usage of water for generating electricity with Jammu and Kashmir Government.
After hearing the writ petition filed by the NHPC, Justice Sunil Hali of HC directed state government not to take any coercive measures against NHPC employees till next date of hearing.
However, the court asked the NHPC authorities to deposit amount raised through various bills with the respondents immediately and fixed July 6 as next date of hearing of the case.
The state government was ordered to maintain a separate account for the money deposited by the NHPC.
