Jammu, July 8 : Slowly but steadily the state government is falling back on its promises as misgovernance, nepotism and lack of administrative control touch new heights in the state.
When Omar Abdullah took office here in 2009, there was a general impression that in contrast to his father, the scion of the Sheikh dynasty did not carry any baggage of the past. Omar Abdullah came to power with a clean slate. Nobody could point out a whiff of corruption charge at him personally. Omar could not be blamed for having helped or protected a corrupt official or a corrupt politician. He made it amply clear to his cabinet colleagues, senior bureaucrats and police officers that he would be the last person to come to their rescue if anyone of them was found involved in corruption, nepotism and other forms of misconduct.

JAMMU, July 8 : A CPWD labourer today allegedly stabbed his elder brother to death with a sharp-edged weapon at their residence at Agli Dhar near Ramkot in Billawar, Kathua.
The victim was identified as Gando Ram (40), son of Mast Ram, and the accused as Joginder Singh (32).
Joginder was stated to be CPWD labourer. He had a tiff with Gando over some trivial issue at their residence, police sources said.
In a fit of anger, he later assaulted his brother with a sharp-edged weapon. Gando was admitted to hospital where he died.

The cab (JK02G/3113) was going to drop Aircel staffers their homes. All of them worked in Aircel office at Bhatindi.
Police sources said while negotiating a curve at Qasim Nagar near Bagh-e-Bahu, its driver lost control over the steering as a result of which it hit the roadside protection wall.

JAMMU, July 8 : A transporter was found hanging from the ceiling fan hook in his house here today. He was identified as Ravinder Singh alias Ricky, son of Balwant Singh of Jallo Chak near Sainik Colony.
Police sources said he was found hanging from the ceiling fan hook in his room by family members who informed police.
Police reached the spot and evacuated the body to the GMC mortuary where post-mortem was conducted on it. Later, it was handed over to his family for last rites. It was suspected to be a case of suicide. Police had, however, registered a case in this connection.... | |
