Kejriwal's 'six' puts BJP into 'fix' over Government formation in J&K
Gives advantageous position to PDP
2/16/2015 12:19:04 AM
Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Feb 15: Resounding victory of Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the recently held assembly elections in Delhi has somewhat changed the equation of government in Jammu & Kashmir. Kejriwal's victory has put Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on a strong wicket as compared to Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) that lost the Delhi elections badly. Following the Delhi defeat, BJP leaders in general and particularly those belonging to the state are pushing for the early formation of government with PDP in the state. Sources told Early Times that the BJP leaders want their high command to take decision on government formation as soon as possible so that the 'golden chance' is not lost. These BJP leaders fear that their might be a change of heart in the PDP leadership with regard to government formation in state. "It is an established fact that BJP would never on earth get 25 seats from the Jammu division. As such this is the best chance for the party to form the government in the state. If this chance is lost then people who voted for th...

2/16/2015 12:18:49 AM
Fazal Khan Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 15: A police officer was placed under suspension in July 2014, after he refused to tender an apology to the close relatives of the former Rural Development Minister and incumbent General Secretary of National Conference Ali Mohammad Sagar. The Sub inspector of Police Syed Waseem Jehangir had to face Sagar's ire when he entered into the ancestral house of the senior National Conference leader while chasing a group of stone pelters, whom the officer had claimed took refuge inside the Sagar's ancestral home at Nawab Bazar in old city. At that point of time the NC spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu had justified the suspension of the police off...

Mufti to meet Modi in Mumbai
2/16/2015 12:18:34 AM
Bashir Assad Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 15: Clouds of uncertainty continue to hover on government formation in Jammu and Kashmir. The People's Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in a last ditch effort is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mumbai tomorrow to sort out the issues. Sources say government formation has run into rough weather because the demand for partial revocation of Armed Forces' Special Powers Act is creating hiccups in the talks with the BJP for the proposed coalition. PDP had earlier stated that it may or may not enter into the coalition, since the deal was subject to BJP's agreement on the common minimum program for governance, which inc...

Issueless, directionless Panthers Party
Negative politics
2/16/2015 12:17:55 AM
Neha Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 15: The Panthers Party, which lost all the seats it contested in the last Assembly election, has, it seems, not learned any lesson. Its top leaders, all from a family, are pulling in different directions. While the two-time MLA Bawant Singh Mankotia, who suffered a defeat at the hands of BJP rebel Pawan Gupta in the Udhampur assembly constituency, has been playing somewhat positive role as chairman of the newly-founded Jammu Pradesh United front (JPUF) and urging the BJP to promote the Jammu cause, Harsh Dev Singh, also a two-time MLA and who suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the BJP in the Ramnagar Assembly constituency, is indulging in ...

Terming NHAI "road tax" as anti-people speaks of his lack of knowledge about BOOT
2/16/2015 12:17:43 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 15: NC MLA Devinder Singh Rana, who actually used J&K Bank platform to seek his entry in NC and then "establish" himself as a politician, has termed NHAI road tax as anti-people unmindful of the fact that it is being done under BOOT (Build, Own, Operate, Transfer), a public-private partnership (PPP) project model. Under BOOT, a private company constructs roads and other large development projects under contract with a government agency. It is the new way of developing a large public infrastructure project with private funding. The government agency may provide limited funding or some other benefit but the private partner firm assumes the risks associated wi...

Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 15: Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other organisations are also staking their claims on some seats of Legislative Council but BJP unlikely to give any seat to these organisations. Sources said BJP has decided to first accommodate its dedicated workers so chances of any leader of VHP or other groups to get Legislative Council is very bleak. BJP has made it clear to leaders of other organisations that first of all the party has decided to rehabilitate those leaders who have been associated with the party. BJP has also made it clear to the leaders of these groups that party leaders have first right to get accommodated on Legislative Council seats. A large number o...

Masterpieces produced by craftsmen have been put at display in the expo. Shockingly, the people who visit the expo praise the department for putting such delicate and brilliantly made pieces at display. The hands that created them have not been acclaimed. Dast means hands and hunner means art. The artful hands have been ignored yet again. The results are obvious. The art is now dying a slow but sure death. People are reluctant to waste their time in learning an art that does no fetch them two...

In absence of any check on part of the authorities, roadside vendors rule the street leaving very little space for vehicular traffic and almost none for the pedestrians. "The road here is very trivial; the vendors have occupied both the road and pedestrian path. Shakeel A Khan Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Feb 15: People of the Kashmir valley have expressed strong resentment against the clean chit given to faith healer, Gulzar Ahmad Bhat alias Gulzar Pir who was arrested by the police for 'sexual exploitation' of girls. A group of victims while sharing their views with Early Times said that faith healers like Gulzar Pir enjoy the political patronage. They said that this was the reason that he was set free despite the fact that he was running a 'sex clinic' in the central Kashmir's Budgam district. "The way the Budgam district court released Gulzar Pir for the reasons of the insufficient proof is an indicative of the fact that the institutio...
