CM adapts Mufti Model for wooing angry Kashmiris | Omar the separatist! | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 9: The Chief Minister, it seems, has adapted what political circles call Mufti Model. The Mufti Model stresses need for speaking in a separatist tone when going gets tough and in mainstream tone when it gets easy. Omar has disappointed the opposition but has managed to dominate the political discourse in Kashmir, at least for the time being. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron, Mufti Muhammad Sayed has never won an election on his own till 2002. It was because of Dr Farooq Abdullah that he got elected to the Rajha Sabha in late 80s. But, in 2002 elections he created history by forcing National Conference to sit in the opposition. People close to PDP say, Mufti won the elections particularly in South Kashmir with tacit support of the separatists. It is believed that the Mufti was instrumental in wiping out Hizbul Mujahideen from South Kashmir. During 2008 agitation, the PDP became more separatist than the separatists. It talked about Kashmir resolution, self rule and abrogation of Indus Water Treaty. The Hurriyat Conference was pushed to the w...

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 9: Unyielding, ill-conceived and illogical stated positions of so-called separatist leaders and mainstream political parties has begun pushing slowly but steadily the beautiful valley of Kashmir to the brink of starvation.
Strife has already wreaked havoc and caused irreparable damage to the economy of Jammu and Kashmir. Frequent long protests, strikes, curfews and hartals (strike action) in the valley since the militancy began in 1989 has further increased vulnerability of the valley since these have by and large always hindered smooth move of food supplies in the state.
These spine-chilling facts have been brought forth in a survey of ...
| | Let Omar play safe by following Farooq and not Sheikh | | | ET REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 9: Has Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, the potential for emerging as strong a political leader in Kashmir as his grandfather, Sheikh Abdullah, had remained for about 50 years? This question has seemingly assumed significance after Omar Abdullah, tried a short-cut method for stepping his feet in the shoes of his grandfather. Whatever may have been the reason for Omar to fulminate against the centre by questioning the finality of the state's accession with India he has displayed, for the first time since he was installed as Chief Minister over a year ago, the Shekhian temperament.
However, he seems to have not been told that Sheikh Abdullah could afford to take up cud...

| | Omar goes too far…… emabrassing for Farooq? | Abdullah v/s Abdullah | | Vijay Gupta
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 9: The curious case of Abdullah V/s Abdullah originated on July 23,2008, the day after Omar Abdullah had made a brief but controversial speech on the floor of Parliament while speaking against a no-confidence motion brought about by the opposition parties against the then UPA government headed by S. Man Mohan Singh. Previous night, interpreting the contents of Omar's speech differently, a vocal section of the national print and electronic media had bestowed upon the younger Abdullah the status of a youth icon next only to Rahul Gandhi. On this 23rd day of July ,2008, on return from Delhi while addressing a large gathering of his workers in Kupw...
| | Tiwari's faux pas: Congress needs spokespersons who know J-K history | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 9: Munish Tiwari, Congress MP from Ludhiana and national spokesperson, knows nothing about Jammu and Kashmir. Nor does he know that the Instrument of Accession signed by Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, Hari Singh, was similar to the one signed by other 560-odd princely states and that it was framed by the State Department (read Home Ministry) of the Government of India. It needs to be underlined that the Instrument of Accession signed by Hari Singh and other princely states was in the same format. There was no difference whatsoever. But Munish Tiwari practically endorsed the viewpoint of Omar Abdullah on the issue of accession by virtually saying the Instrument...
