Saroj Razdan Jammu, Nov 16: Raising the pitch over 'whole hearted' support to Army over the controversial issue of partial revocation of AFSPA recommended by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah , BJP stalwart LK Advani today said Government of India should firmly convey it to Omar that no decision could be taken without Army's nod in the matter. Senior leader Arun Jaitely questioned the wisdom of Chief Minister in recommending its revocation in only few districts, contending that he has no idea how anti miltancy operations are fought by the security forces. Both the leaders came down heavily upon over the issue of corruption saying both Congress led UPA as well as its alliance government were 'corrupt' and encouraging 'corruption'. CM's AFSPA partial revocation proposal put on backburner?
11/16/2011 11:44:18 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 16: The road for the State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's AFSPA revocation has finally reached a dead end. Given the stiff resistance from the army and the less than lukewarm response from the central leadership, Chief Minister would now gradually scale down his campaign for partial revocation of AFSPA. Defence Minister AK Antony has politely told the Chief Minister that he would have to discuss and debate the issue not with Delhi but with the unified headquarters in the State which has the authority to decide on the issue as per the decisions of the cabinet committee on security (CCS). It is now common knowledge that Omar Abdullah told the central leaders t...

From supporting to opposing AFSPA
Farooq has gone a long way!
11/16/2011 11:44:03 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 16: The former Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah supported his son, Omar Abdullah's AFSPA campaign saying the situation had taken `favourable turn' and the law was not needed now. Like Kashmir, Farooq too seems to have changed. He happened to be the only politician from valley to support AFSPA much to the disappointment of his son. Exactly one year ago, On November 28, Farooq while addressing a seminar at Kolkatta said AFSPA was needed to fight terrorism effectively. He also supported Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA). "Implementing these laws is the only way to fight terrorism effectively", he said. During Farooq Abdullah's regime, Jammu Kashmir ...

NC forgot AFSPA when they had absolute majority in 1996: Mehbooba
11/16/2011 11:43:42 PM
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 16: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti Wednesday said if National Conference wouldn't have rigged elections in 1987, forcing people to take up arms, Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) would never have been implemented in Jammu and Kashmir. In an interview with in Srinagar Mehbooba said, "When PDP came to power in 2002, we revoked POTA which had been implemented in NC regime (1996-2002). If NC thinks implementing AFPSA in 1990 was a mistake, why did Farooq Abdullah with two third majority extend the same laws to other parts of the state and added POTA to it?" Upbeat PDP tears into NC, says Omar compromises for power
11/16/2011 11:43:32 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 16: It was expected that the PDP would sharpen its attack on the NC in general and Chief Minister in particularly in the wake of Omar Abdullah's failure to get the AFSPA revoked, even partially, and it precisely happened yesterday. The PDP president Mehbooba Mufti took full advantage of the situation created by the Chief Minister's mishandling of the issue and made a concerted attempt at lowering his position in the eyes of the people, particularly the people of Kashmir. Omar Abdullah had given the people of Kashmir to understand that he would dictate terms to the powers-that-be in New Delhi and the army, made them to fall in line and give him absolute powers ...

Message From Surinsar -- III
11/16/2011 11:43:16 PM
Neha JAMMU, Nov 16: National Conference (NC) is known for its utter bias against the people of Jammu province. It is only Congress, which the people bank upon in taking up their issues in a bold and fearless manner. Former Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma, JKPCC vice-president Dharmpal Sharma and MP Madan Lal Sharma, for example, tore into the NC and talked about discriminatory policies against the people of Jammu province, rotational chief minister, the NC leadership's arrogance...
