Omar proposes, Farooq disposes as Sheikh Family goes to war | My removal has demoralized party workers: Kamal | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 22 : With Mustafa Kamal's outburst against Chief Minister, the Sheikh Family seems to have gone to war. Kamal accused Omar of being instrumental in getting him removed from party posts. However, Omar made clear that he had no personal grudge against his father's brother (Uncle). "It was Party President's decision. I have nothing to do with it", Omar said.
Earlier Kamal in an exclusive interview with a news agency Kamal said, "Omar Abdullah was scared of my growing popularity." He claimed that few other NC leaders were also behind his removal.
Kamal accused Omar of making compromises on various issues to stay in power. "But Omar should remember that power isn't permanent and he has to come back to the party again," he said.
Kamal claimed that his removal had demoralized party workers. "I wasn't working for myself but for the party as I'm already popular among masses. I never spoke against coalition dharma but spoke the truth," he added.
In a direct attack against his nephew and Chief Minister, Kamal said,"Omar should run the government but not a...

Mustafa Kamaal---Ministry's jilted lover or NC's whistleblower? | | | Ahmed Ali Fayyaz
SRINAGAR, Nov 22: In early 1980s, Mrs Indira Gandhi's Congress party, in close coordination with a central agency then known as the Department of Dirty Tricks, succeeded in creating first fissures in the indefatigable Sher-e-Kashmir's National Conference (NC). Within two years of Sheikh Abdullah's death, his successor son and Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah was dismissed and the mantle of power put on Ghulam Mohammad Shah. The mission was meticulously accomplished as the head of NC's breakaway faction was none other than Sheikh's daughter, Khalida.
The second attempt did not mature. Even after Farooq Abdullah was bludgeoned into surrender by Mrs Gandhi's successor son and...
| | Time fast running out for young Omar Abdullah? | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 22: The present State government started its innings nearly three years back championing the cause of the common man and its campaign against corruption. Ironically, nearly three years are about to be completed but both the common man and the crusade against corruption has been lost in the din of confusion and chaos generated by poor governance, lack of accountability and the crumbling of systems those are the cornerstones of any good government.
State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah undoubtedly started his innings as the Mr. Clean. Both corrupt politicians and civil servants believed they had finally come to the end of their road when Omar took over the reins o...

| | NC's political 'duality' in two regions 'Opportunism' working to its disadvantage | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 22: Call it political expediency or politics of opportunism ruling National Conference has been doing it very deftly while nourishing their constituencies in different regions of the state. Even though NC is one party but it has never maintained coherence and semblance in terms of echoing issues in unequivocal voices or tones in different regions of the J&K state. It is too known a fact that political issues which are core to its ideology and thought sound hardcore in Kashmir and get softened and diluted when these reach Jammu. The party changes the tone and tenor and political contours of an issue when it takes that up in the national capital.

| | Leave AFSPA; revoke unbridled powers of departmental 'Inspectors' | Hafta culture impinges more | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 22: Not Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) but commoners in Jammu and Kashmir have been demanding revocation of unbridled powers enjoyed by 'Inspectors' of various departments apart from police.
'Inspector Raj' hurts more is what the commoners are heard saying off and on. State government which is seemingly more worried about revocation of AFSPA has not even for once bothered to get survey done about properties and other assets, which officials supplementing the 'Inspector Raj' have created.
State government has not even once asked State Vigilance Organization (SVO) to probe assets which the inspectors working in various capacities in different departme...
| | New Delhi deflates CM's AFSPA balloon | | |
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 22: The Chief Minister, it seems, has softened his stand on AFSPA revocation. A decision that was supposed to be taken by the State Cabinet has been deferred for the time being. Now a committee will hold parleys with New Delhi to discuss the AFSPA row.
Omar Abdullah promised AFSPA revocation the day he assumed office of the Chief Minister. He also issued a few statements last year. "AFSPA would go in my regime", Omar said. But when New Delhi directed him to behave, Omar played the typical `good boy'. He could not tell the people that AFSPA was `needed'. His Law Minister, Ali Muhammad Sagar issued a statement saying AFSPA would remain in force until neede...
| | Before Durbar move, in November & now no time limit | AFSPA A Dead Issue | | Neha
JAMMU, Nov 22: Has Chief Minister Omar Abdullah finally accepted defeat? Has he finally raised his hands? Has he finally realized that he committed one of the greatest political blunders by demanding something that just could not be conceded? Has the Chief Minister finally accepted the fact that he just cannot take New Delhi for a ride? Has he finally decided to put at stake whatever credibility he still had for the sake of personal power? These are some of the questions the people and political observers have started asking in the wake of the Chief Minister's shifting stand on AFSPA. They have also started asking: Will Omar Abdullah be able to retrieve the situation and restore the l...
| | Strengthen ideology of NC to get semi-independence | Equitable Development, NC-Style -- II | | Rustam
JAMMU, Nov 22: The NC leaders said their ideology stands for secularism and brotherhood. This is not true. As mentioned, the NC stands against secularism and brotherhood. Even the JKPCC president, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz, says so. He said only the other day that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been indulging in mere sloganeering, instead of focusing his attention on issues of governance". Prof Soz is not an ordinary man. He has worked with and for the NC for decades and who knows more about the NC than him. No NC leader, not even Omar Abdullah, has contested what Prof Soz said. Even otherwise, the insistence of NC on pre-1953 status and its stand on...
