TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Political lull once again in J&K : Diversionary tactics diffusing issues
NC managing to pull its cart smoothly….?
12/3/2011 12:37:33 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 2: After series of developments enveloped in controversial issues in recent past, J&K's political scenario is witnessing a political lull these days. The clamour over corruption that reached its crescendo with opposition parties getting many new things to whip up that came as handy under the fold of Haji Yousuf death , has faded gradually from the scene. The tantrums of ruling ally Congress thrown at its partner NC over AFSPA and the issue of rotational Chief Minister that got louder last month have also fizzled out from the political scene for now. And the BJP's lung power rhetoric on seeking Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's resignation on a host of issues and failures on key counts has vanished from the air suddenly. There is absolute lull on political waters of the state that remains hot otherwise always on one or the other count. When the political scene heated up last month with antagonizing utterings from both within the coalition partners as well as the heightened attacks from opposition towards the NC led coalition, there were speculatio...

Faulty transmission lines, failing electric power supply tax Valley
12/3/2011 12:37:01 AM
Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 2: The appalling electric power supply situation in the Valley continues to trouble the locals despite promises of more power generating units and better distribution systems by the state government. As the Valley reels under extreme cold wave conditions these days, frequent shutdowns, scheduled and unscheduled cuts, plus system failures have caused a lot of heartburn in most parts. The rural areas are the worst affected with the people agitating against frequent electricity failures and transformer breakdowns. At many places in the rural areas people stage protests blocking traffic on the roads leading to even more inconveniences to students, pati...

Sher-e-Kashmir suggested division of JK in 1964
`JK became most corrupt state during NC rule'
12/3/2011 12:36:44 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 2: National Conference leader Ajay Sadhotra today accused PDP of encouraging disruptive politics. He also accused the PDP of trying to divide the state on religious lines. He was addressing prominent workers of Marh Assembly Constituency. Sadotra said the state won the label of No 1 corrupt state during Mufti Sayed's rule. The problem with National Conference leaders is that they seem totally unaware of history. After Sir Own Dixon, Sher-e-Kashmir was the first to suggest division of Jammu Kashmir. This stands proved by his letter to Col. Naseer of Egypt in 1965. The letter was published by a Jammu based newspaper and Muslim India a few years ago. While...

Is Omar, Farooq led NC falling apart?
ANC praises Kamal
12/3/2011 12:36:09 AM
Asif Iqbal Naik JAMMU, Dec 2: After 27 years, National conference leadership led by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah is facing sleepless night in the wake of statements made by senior party leader and his brother Dr. Mustafa Kamal. Ghost of 1984 episode, in which Ghulam Mohammed Shah, the estranged brother-in-law of Dr. Farooq Abdullah dethroned the government of Dr. Farooq Abdullah, is haunting Abdullah family. They are worried that in 1984, duly elected National conference government was toppled through defection by none other than his own family member who was a senior minister in his government. The question has assumed the importance after the meeti...

Omar proposes, Omar disposes
Another U-Turn
12/3/2011 12:34:22 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 2: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is taking U-turn almost everyday and in the process becoming a laughing stock and losing his grip over the administration by the day. On October 21, he announced with much fanfare that he would remove AFSPA from certain districts before the Durbar move but failed to keep his word. Why because the Defence Minister and the Army put their foot down and rejected out-of-hand Omar Abdullah's controversial suggestion. On November 9, Omar Abdullah convened meeting of the all-powerful Unified Headquarters (UHQ) giving an impression that he would make members of the UHQ endorse his suggestion and enable him to fulfill the commitment that ...

Sham Democracy
12/3/2011 12:33:06 AM
Neha JAMMU, Dec 2: Who says Indian democracy means "government of the people, by the people and for the people? Those who say so are only fooling themselves and the hapless people of the country. Democracy in India means government of the Prime Minister and a section of the Congress leadership, by the Prime Minister and a section of the Congress leadership and for the Prime Minister and a section of the Congress leadership. The Indian democracy also means the government of the United States, France and England, by the United States, France and England and for the Unite States, France and England. Meaning of political problem
Context Kashmir
12/3/2011 12:32:40 AM
Rustam JAMMU, Dec 2: Still Kashmiri leaders of all hues describe Kashmir as a "political problem" and urge New Delhi to resolve it "politically." Chief Minister Omar Abdullah says so. People's Democratic Party leaders like Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti say so. CPI-M leaders like Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami say so. In fact, all the Kashmiri leaders -- "mainstream" or otherwise -- hold an identical view on Kashmir and advocate a "political solution" to the Kashmir issue. However, none of them explains what he/she means by political problem. Do they want a system other than the one the Indian Constitution hands down to the people? Do they want a totalitarian government or a governm...
