| | LC seat becoming 'table battle' between Cong factions | | | ET Report
JAMMU, Feb 26: With smooth process that paved way for formal appointment of Amrit Malhotra as Chairman of the Legislative Council, the Congress is now faced with challenge of election of lone seat in the Upper House that has fallen vacant due to demise of Yashhpal Khajuria. The process, for which the notification is being issued on March 6, is far from being smooth at the level of 'selecting' the party nominee as the seat appears to have become 'table battle' for the two factions and the leaders who 'steer' this factionalism.
Sources said with Amrit Malhotra's 'elevation' as Chairaman of the Upper House, it has become a prestige point for the faction led by Ghulam Nabi A...
| | Yes Minister, Early Times has no credibility! | The magic of making millions on salary of Rs 40,000 a month | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 26: "Agar miani dasi aayi kaanh beqlaazi, khatta muaf karizem" (Forgive my lord please, if I have erred" was the stanza every individual in then Progressive Movement, and beyond, mugged up from Rehman Rahi's classical "Muafi Naama". Sher-e-Kashmir's National Conference conveniently dismissed Rahi as a frustrated Bakra (follower of Mirwaiz dynasty) and trashed his ode of satire. The tradition of intolerance in NC remains unchanged nearly 60 years later---'if you are not with me, you are against me'!
On Saturday last, PDP's Pluto did not carry ET alone to support and substantiate his chargesheet of corruption against the Navratans of Mr Clean. He did equally ...

KHANPUR (NAGROTA), Feb 26: National Conference (NC) has historically stifled opposition, disliked dissent and desisted from handing over the leadership baton to leaders outside Abdullah family.
"Constituent assembly of Jammu and Kashmir included none other than the members of National Conference (NC). No one would ever dare to contest against Sheikh Sahab. They rigged elections in 1987 leading entire state to disaster. They again managed elections in 1996. People would not dare to even think of contesting elections. We brought a change in the year 2002 with the help of the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee," Mufti said while addressing a mammoth rally at Khanpu...

| | UP election results could change political equations in J&K | Congress-NC Relations | | Rustam
JAMMU, Feb 26: The issue of rotational chief minister-ship in the state is not very much alive these days. The reasons are not far to seek. One of the reasons is the very cordial relations between Sonia Gandhi's son and AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi and chief minister Omar Abdullah. In fact, Omar Abdullah is the chief minister only because of Rahul Gandhi. The other reason is that the Congress leadership in the state is very weak and meek and that bulk of the Congress ministers, especially those belonging to Jammu province, are for maintaining a status quo for obvious reasons. To be more precise, the Congress ministers and the bulk of local Congress leaders represent two...
| | SAC toothless in fighting 'bureaucratic corruption' | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 26: The state accountability commission (SAC) has proved to be a "toothless" tiger while dealing with cases against the corrupt bureaucrats.
Yesterday, PDP MLA Muzaffar Hussain Beig raised the issue in the legislative assembly and said that to weed out corruption, institutions needed to be strengthened.
In 90 per cent cases, ministers sign files in good faith. But in this House, he (the minister) is responsible for omission and commission, if any. So when we talk about corruption, it is not against anybody and any minister. But then he too is responsible.
There are bureaucrats like G N Qasba, who had cases pending against him but no action had been taken a...

| | Parties must allow legislature to function smoothly | | | ET Report
JAMMU, Feb 26: The big fight between the ruling NC and the opposition PDP has reached a new high with star fighters, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti deciding to join the fray.
It was okay for the middle and lower rung activists of the State's two main political parties to engage in mudslinging matches with each other. It becomes quite deplorable when the Chief Minister and Mehbooba Mufti start raising unsubstantiated, frivolous accusations against each other. Politics has already hit such low ebb in J&K State. What could have shocked the conscience and decency of the common man in the State just a few years back does not even raise an eye-brow now. Politicia...
