| 3 hideouts busted | | | | Jammu: A huge quantity of arms and ammunition, including at least 14 kg RDX, was recovered by security forces from three militant hideouts across the region today.
Police sources said Rashtriya Rifles (RR) troops came across a militant hideout in Chor Hill forests of Mahore and recovered from there one Chinese pistol, its 14 rounds, 48 AK rounds, two crude
IEDs and miscellaneous items. The hideout was later smashed by the troops.
Another militant hideout was busted by a joint column of RR and Infantry Battalion Territorial Army at Shukra near Gundoh in Doda. From there, the troops recovered at least 14 kg RDX and 26 kg unknown powder, the sources added.

Police sources said an anti-tank mine exploded near the IB in the forward Bobiyan area of Hiranagar. Its impact was so powerful that the window panes of nearby houses were shattered. There was, however, no loss to life or property in the incident, the sources added.

He was moving in the area in his Indica car (JK02AG-4417) when a tip-off led police to his arrest.

JAMMU, Mar 7: Militants today killed a woman and her seven-year-old son by slitting their throats in Dubri Upper Forests of Mahore in Reasi where they had gone to collect firewood. Sheelo Devi (28) went to the Dubri Upper forests along with her son Rinku (7) to collect firewood in the afternoon.
Official sources said while they were collecting firewood, militants appeared on the scene and caught hold of them.
The ultras first subjected them to inhuman torture and then killed both of them by slitting their throats, the sources added, saying they later fled the spot.

New Delhi, Mar 7: Security forces killed 245 terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir last year, when the number of infiltration attempts by militants from Pakistan went up marginally, according to official figures. "Attempts at infiltration from across the LoC (saw) a marginal increase during 2009," Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Maken said, referring to the Line of Control dividing Indian and Pakistani Kashmir.

Jammu, Mar 7: In 11,876 explosions that rocked the state in the past two decades, at least 1,754 precious lives were lost, while 15,589 others survided with injuries.
According to a report compiled by the state home ministry, militants resorted to Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blasts and grenade attacks to avoid direct conflict with security forces which led to casualties on their part.
"Militants are using IEDs and grenades as a tool to cause casualties to security forces and civilians, and thereby avoiding direct conflict with security forces. This is the part of their target and hit strategy to avoid their own casualty," a senior police officer said.
