TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Omar ideal in raising issues, fails to offer solution
5/6/2012 12:13:50 AM
Bashir Assad Srinagar, May 5: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been very intelligent in generating debate on issues of public interest and bringing them in public domain but has failed in translating his words into action and very often gets trapped in his own juggleries. In other words he raise the issues with zeal and buries them with apathy. His latest remarks on practice of annual Sarbar Move in the State, " we run away when people need us most and face the most difficulty. The Darbar Move is escapist" has come into public domain and people have started discussing it. However, it is unfortunate that the Chief Minister of a State like Jammu and Kashmir has been idealistic when he is supposed to be more practical. State needs practical politics rather than idealistic juggleries. And this is exactly what he said in a panel discussion on a news channel in 2008 when the results of the general Assembly elections were declared and his party emerged as the single largest party. It is still fresh in my mind when on one of the panellist's suggestion that it would be gre...

5/6/2012 12:13:31 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, May 5: Omar Abdullah could have tweeted live proceedings of the Chief Ministers' conference meet in New Delhi on the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) today but the fear of being asked to leave the venue has prevented him from doing so. In a tweet on Saturday morning, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister posted on Twitter: "NCTC meeting today. Would have live tweeted the proceedings but I'd probably be turned out from Vigyan Bhavan." Jammu and Kashmir is one of the worst terrorism-hit States. Tens of thousands have died in the State since 1989 in the violence. Abdullah has no objection to the intelligence gathering mechanism the Centre has proposed in th...

"There isn't any policy with the government to advertise these posts", an official said. Despite facing extinction Pandits continue to be wooed by politicians
5/6/2012 12:10:00 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, May 5: As if they were rare species the mainstream political parties besides even a section among the separatists have started wooing Kashmiri Pandits, who since 1990 are a displaced community. Earlier several Kashmiri separatists, including Molvi Umar Farooq, Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat, Mohd. Yasin Mailk and to some extent, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, have favoured return of Kashmiri Pandits to the Valley, which they had left following the rise of Pakistan sponsored insurgency. The latest to join the chorus is Shabir Ahmed Shah who has stated that Kashmir was incomplete without Pandits. Right from mid-90's Shah has been the lone separatist leader who had series of intera...

Jammuites perplexed over approach of Jammu based parties…..!!!
J&K Bank's recruitment procedure
5/6/2012 12:08:54 AM
Kunal Shrivatsa JAMMU, May 5: Regional discrimination is probably the most sought after issue for the Jammu based political parties, however, the 'gross biasness' with Jammuites in the selection process of Jammu and Kashmir Bank for various posts has hardly attracted any attention of the Jammu leadership. It was widely reported in the section of media that the Jammu youth were once again subjected to discrimination as only 300 candidates from Jammu region were fortunate enough to get a job in JK Bank while their Kashmiri counterparts got a whopping 1300 posts. Even though the 'open partiality' in JK Bank's selection process came to light a few months back, the 'mysterious silence' over t...

Former Army Generals oppose demilitarization of Siachen
Walking Into Pakistani Trap
5/6/2012 12:08:28 AM
Neha Jammu, May 5: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Army chief Pervez Ashfaq Kayani, former Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, to mention only a few, have urged New Delhi to demilitarize the strategic Siachen glacier region, which is under the control of the Indian Army since 1984, saying this is doable. They have, in addition, opined that the demilitarization of Siachen glacier would go a long way in tackling the Kashmir tangle and harmonizing India-Pakistan relations. This is a dangerous trap Pakistan wants India to walk into so that Islamabad is able to play nefarious games in the region and advance its interests. Sadly, the respons...

Defending Anti-People Article 370
5/6/2012 12:08:04 AM
Rustam Jammu, May 5: It was expected that the Kashmir-based rattled and alarmed NC leadership would attack the Jammu-based Congress MP Lal Singh for his May 3 national, democratic and secular Lok Sabha stand on Jammu and Kashmir, as also for his sharp criticism of those in Kashmir who have been seeking an autonomous status for Jammu and Kashmir State or striving to create Republic of Kashmir within the Indian Republic on the ground that it is a Muslim-majority State, which cannot have any kind of truck with the democratic and liberal India and it actually happened within 24 hours. Significantly, attack on the Congress this time was launched not by NC additional general secretary Mustafa Ka...

Entry ban order leaves hundreds of morning walkers disappointed
JU ground out of bounds for commoners……?
5/6/2012 12:07:27 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, May 5: The residents of posh localities across Tawi bridge feel deprived of a facility they would make good use of in the Jammu University campus to keep themselves fit and active, thanks to University authorities who have imposed ban on entry of 'commoners' inside the academic institution for no substantial reason. While this 'ban' order doesn't apply to the 'crowd' of visitors during the day time, it is being irrationally implemented on those who would enter the campus either in the wee hours or late in the evening , the period when the University is off for any academic activity. Vast in area and lined up with trees and green ornamental plants on the bound...
