| What peace is Rana talking about by the way? | | | |
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 4: National Conference provincial president for Jammu, Devender Singh Rana today claimed that his organization held promise for peace and development.
While, the organization that leads the coalition Government stands totally exposed on the developmental front, the organization has nothing to boast about on the security front.
In 2009 two women of Shopian were raped and murdered. The incident evoked massive reaction across the state. Even Jammu students protested and condemned the brutal act.
The agitation that ensued consumed scores of persons but nothing happened. Nobody was brought to justice.
Who can forget the 2010 killings? One hundred and thirty persons, most of them teen aged students fell to bullets one after the other.
Again nothing was done. A separatist organization had to approach the High Court seeking an enquiry into the killings.
While 2011 and 2012 were relatively calm, 2013 was reminiscent of early 90s when militancy was at its peak. For the first time in 23 years, the state had more killings of the security men than the mi...

| | | | Jammu, Ladakh conspicuous by their absence | | Different platforms, one agenda | | |
Rustam
JAMMU, June 4: On the face of it, the NC, the Congress, the CPI-M and formations like Jammu & Kashmir Awami Muttahida Mahaz (AMM) are different platforms. But ideologically they are one and their attitude towards New Delhi and Jammu and Ladakh is identical. There is no fundamental difference between them. For example, each one of these outfits, which are fundamentally Kashmir-centric and sectarian in their approach, opposes the Indian laws and the Indian institutions. In other words, they vouch for a system that restricts the jurisdiction of New Delhi to Jammu & Kashmir to just three subjects - defence, foreign affairs and communications. Besides, they want New Delhi to pump int...
