CM shifts SP to pacify Sopore | Imtiyaz brought back as SP Sopore, Shahid Meraj posted in Ganderbal | | Ahmed Ali Fayyaz
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Aug 2: Playing a veritable gamble of the year and risking rank demoralization in Police, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today ordered immediate shifting of SP Sopore, Altaf Khan, for "fair and impartial investigation" into the custodial killing of a civilian on July 31st.
Whether the significant administrative action would achieve the objective of pacifying an agitated apple town or would prove counterproductive by emboldening the defeated stone pelters would possibly become clear in the next two days. Highly placed authoritative sources told Early Times that on the local political advise, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today decided to shift 1999 batch KPS officer, Altaf Khan, as SP of Sopore with the calculation that transfer of the senior most district police officer would pacify residents of Sopore.
Krankshivan and adjoining peripheral localities of the apple-rich township have been outraged with the death of 27-year-old shopkeeper, Nazim Rashid, who died during custodial interrogation on July 31st. Son of a retired Sub Inspector o...

Sopore youth's custodial murder must weigh heavily on Omar's conscience | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 2: The custodial death of a youth in Sopore town on 31st July has sent shock waves throughout the state. Nazim Rashid, 26, was killed while in the custody of police----who are supposed to be the custodians of people's life, liberty and property!
What is worse is that Nazim Rashid was the son of a former police officer of Baramulla district. This fact has largely gone unnoticed in the scores of media reports those were carried by various national and international newspapers, television channels, wire services etc.
It is very unusual for even cannibals to eat their own children and here in our midst we have a situation where the son of a police officer has ...
| | In Omar's Kashmir, condoling death is a crime | SP Sopore transferred | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 2: In Kashmir condoling demise is considered an act `prejudicial to the security of state'. People desirous of visiting the bereaved Sopore family who lost one of its members to police torture, have been put under house arrest to prevent them from visiting the apple town. The administration fears another agitation if separatists and pro-Indian politicians are allowed to visit the town. Meanwhile, the MoS Home chaired a meeting and ordered transfer of SP Sopore. But will it help?
The meeting gave overall control of the investigation to another officer, Muneer Ahmad Khan but transferred the SP for `ensuring free and fair investigation'. The MoS , therefore,...

EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Aug 2: Things in Jammu and Kashmir are heading towards a full-scale confrontation between the determined employees and what the aggrieved employees term as "arrogant, unaccommodating and insensitive state government." The state would surely witness a massive two-day-long strike on August 5 and 6 in the event of the authorities in the state not conceding the genuine demands of the employees in the state, nearly 4.5 lakh. The employees and their family members constitute nearly 20 per cent of the state's population and it is not difficult to understand what the discontent and disaffection among 20 per cent people in the state means.
The deadlock between the s...
| | PUCL no different from Amnesty International | In Support Of Subversives | | Rustam
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Aug 2: J&K chapter of highly controversial People's Union For Civil Liberties (PUCL), whose leadership doesn't mind rubbing shoulders with Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at Chandigardh, Srinagar and elsewhere and wants some semblance of regional autonomy for Jammu province within the autonomous Jammu & Kashmir State, has "condemned the killing of Nazim Rashid Shalla alias Anjum, a young man in Sopre on July 31 in police custody." Nothing wrong.
If the version of PUCL is correct or if what who have caused a stir in sopore area said on the issue are correct, then everyone should come forward and denounce and condemn the police action. Human rights of innocent unarmed ...
| | Pakistan blamed for exporting terror to China | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 2: Incidents of subversive violence in the Chinese province of Xinjiang, during the last one fortnight in which 38 people were killed, had forced Beijing to publicly blame Islamabad for facilitating "religious extremists" to get arms training and weapons in "Jehadi camps" being run in Pakistan.
During the last over two years religious extremists, trained in camps in Pakistan, had been indulging in various acts of subversive violence but Beijing has never publicly blamed Islamabad for it because China would treat Pakistan as an all weather ally. Now that the situation was assuming serious dimensions in the Chinese province of Xinjiang Beijing has called upon ...
