Omar holds hectic parleys with PM, ministers, talks remain "inconclusive" | Partial revocation of AFSPA Delhi tells him to sort out issue with Unified Headquarters | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 14: As the issue of partial revocation of AFSPA, that gives army sweeping powers, from J&K is back into focus, hectic parleys were held today in New Delhi, with chief minister Omar Abdullah meeting prime minister Manmohan Singh, defence minister A K Antony and some senior ministers, and Congress Core Group holding intense consultations.
The talks, however, remained inconclusive as no time limit could be fixed for the decision, a senior politician and minister in J&K said. The Centre and the state governments are grappled with the contentious issue ever since Omar has started pushing for the AFSPA withdrawal from some J&K parts.
In his meeting Singh and Antony, Omar asserted that his proposal can be implemented while addressing the concerns of armed forces. Antony, however, maintained that no time limit could be put on the "very very sensitive" issue which requires a "mature and cool" handling. Amid persisting differences over the issue, Omar pushed his case for revocation of the controversial act from certain parts of the state. He was also scheduled...

JAMMU, Nov 14: Former Chief Minister and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has once again made himself conspicous in the political space of J&K by taking a stance on AFSPA which is contrary to what Congress as a party and PCC leadership in particular has adopted. While the latter has been supporting of consultations, debate and consensus , Azad has openly disfavoured what he says 'public debate' and says the issue should not be politicized and any decision on it should be left to the Chief Minister and the Union Home Minister.
In other words Azad has antagonised the stand taken up by the PCC Chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz and supported by others over withdrawal of sp...
| | Outcome of Nov 17 cabinet meeting will determine Congress' fate | AFSPA Row | | Rustam
JAMMU, Nov 14: The J&K state cabinet is scheduled to meet on November 17. Reports suggest the cabinet would discuss the revocation of AFSPA from certain areas in the state. The beleaguered chief minister would, as per some trustworthy sources, try to bring the Congress ministers on board during the meeting. The chief minister wants New Delhi to believe that the ruling coalition is one as far as revocation of AFSPA from certain districts in the state is concerned and that both the NC and the Congress are working in unison.
One can understand the compulsions of the chief minister who has landed himself in a very difficult situation by mishandling the sensitive issue and openly chall...

| | JKPCC in fighting mode, says NC must behave or else | Message From Surinsar -- I | | Neha
JAMMU, Nov 14: The Congress party yesterday held a rally at Surinsar, Jammu. It was dominated by the supporters of JKPCC chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz in the sense that none of the supporters of union health minister and former J&K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was conspicuous by his presence. The composition of the rally once again established that the Congress is not a cohesive unit and that it is vertically divided at least in two main groups. It is not good for the health of the Congress party. Jammu and Kashmir is a sensitive border state and it needs a political formation that is capable of fighting separatism and communalism and that follows state-centric, as opposed to region-c...
