'RTO, transport commissioner, traffic police offices citadels of corruption, festering sores' | State Finance Commission Report-Part -II | | Syed Junaid Hashmi
JAMMU, Nov 29: Office of Regional Transport Officer in Jammu and Kashmir regions separately, sub-offices in various districts, postings in traffic department alongwith the office of transport commissioner are citadels of corruption and such festering sores that commission is compelled to name them in public interest.
These stinging remarks have been made by Jammu and Kashmir State Finance Commission (JKSFC) in its five volume report submitted to the state government on November 30, 2010. Apart from calling the above mentioned offices as 'festering sores', SFC report has taken sharp notice of corruption in the office of excise commissioner with the involvement of excise and taxation officers besides referring to the office of sales tax commissioner where sales tax officers indulge in extreme corrupt practices.

JAMMU, Nov 29: Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has slashed a notice to state of Jammu and Kashmir over the scraping of UID contract to two companies Wipro Technologies, Gurgaon and Srinagar based Comptech Technology after they won the bid to carry out the enrolment of 27 lakh and 45 lakh people respectively in the month of August 2011.

NEW DELHI, Nov 29: Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ) will observe Black Day on 2nd December to protest against moves to scuttle the Wage Board for journalist and non-journalists, and concerted moves to kill the Working Journalists Act. The black day will also spot light increasing attack on journalists in sensitive areas and moves by J&K state governments to withdraw advertisements to select news papers.
