| | Why have a clock tower at Lal Chowk? | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 25: The clock tower at Lal Chowk in the summer capital has become a hot spot for the separatists and main-stream politicians. Both want to conquer it to prove their strength (if not worth). While the government seems, desperate to keep the clock tower `out of bounds' especially for the separatists, the curbs imposed to ensure its `protection' every now and then subject the commoner to inconvenience.
Pertinent to mention, the clock tower has no historical importance. It came up in early 80s and became politically important in 1992 when the then BJP president, Murli Manohar Joshi hoisted the tricolor on the tower. He started his yatra from a distant state in ...
| | | | | lWe want to make it clear to the police that no Bar in Jammu city has deployed armed persons to recover money from customers who sometimes refuse to pay the bill. At the Royal Bar, Gandhi Nagar two unidentified goons declined to foot the bill last night. Such situations often occur in bars as after consuming liquor in excess, people lose their nerves and refuse to pay. However, the Bar management cannot direct their staffers to extract money from the defaulters on gun point or showing a Khokhri (a sharp edged weapon).
Perhaps, police is also aware of the fact that no Bar in city has made such arrangements and it has wrongly booked three staffers of Royal Bar for allegedly stabbing the duo,...
| | Royal Bar incident unjustifiable, illegal, unfounded | Instead of booking trouble creaters, police arrest innocent bar staffers | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu,Dec 25: The December 24 night incident outside Royal Bar at Gole Market, Gandhinagar, here, in which police misused their authority and erroneously booked three bar staffers in a "stab" case, which actually did not take place, is the glaring example of how police fabricate cases against innocent citizens.
The police acted like an unlawful authority in this case. Their action is unjustifiable, illegal and needs to be condemned in strongest words by one and all.
The police act of arresting three bar staffers -- Jagdish Singh, Ravi Kumar and Jaidev Singh alias Kaka -- and then labelling them as stabbers is totally wrong.
They were not involved in any stabbing case ...
| | Let the truth prevail | | | Late in the night on December 24, three employees of Early Times newspaper's sister business concern were harassed by police and later booked in a false case of stabbing.
Police claim, that they stabbed two customers. Early Times strongly contests the police claim. Let there be a Narco test of the staffers and those policemen including SHO Gandhi Nagar, who wasted no time in reaching the spot to whisk away the trio to the police station. The Early Times management is making this offer to bring the truth to light.
The Early Times management would bear all the expenses in this regard....
| | BJP's resolution deserves government attention | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu,Dec 25: The BJP's three-point resolution on the Kashmir problem ostensibly indicates the party's urge for further strengthening its base in the Jammu and Ladakh regions. It has talked loud about the discrimination of the regions of Ladakh and Jammu. The emphasis on the discrimination of Ladakh is the result of recent birth of the BJP in the land of Lamas. Well the BJP has sounded the right tone when it pleaded for strengthening the constitutional and political relationaship between the state of Jammu and Kashmir and rest of the country. Since its source of strength is in the Jammu region it has lamented over the continued discrimination of the region of Jammu which...
| | Massive response to BJP rally bad omen for Cong | | | RUSTAM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 25: The people's response to the BJP "Maha Rally" was massive by any standard. While it must have enhanced the confidence of BJP leaders, national and local, it has simply unnerved the local Congress leaders - leave alone the Jammu-based NC leaders who have already become thoroughly unpopular because of their pro-autonomy stance. It's basically the Congress leadership that has to work hard to retrieve the lost ground in its core constituency. The political space in Jammu is gradually but surely being occupied by the BJP, which has adopted an aggressive policy in order to expose the Congress party and strengthen and expand its constituency in the Jammu ...
| | BJP adopts tough stand, snubs interlocutors | | | NEHA
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 25: The upshot of the BJP was "complete political and constitutional integration of J&K into India and abrogation of Article 370." In other words, it said that complete political and constitutional integration of J&K into India is not possible so long as Article 370 remains part of the Indian Constitution. The BJP was absolutely right.
Article 370 has indeed caused more harm. It has acted as a high wall between the state and the rest of the country and it has been holding the state aloof from the national mainstream. In fact, it has made invidious and unjust distinctions between the state and other states of the Union. For example, under this Article, t...

| | BJP 's reslove on Ekta Sankalp Rally Stand as a 'rock' to forces inimical to J&K's accession with India | Art 370 obstruction to development boom' | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 24:The saffron brigade today made its message clear: it not only demands but would ensure J&K's complete merger and integration with rest of India, a political assertion which is in contrast to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's posturing in the state Assembly. The historical Ekta Sankalp Rally addressed by the strong national delegation of the party undertook a solemn pledge to stand as a 'rock' against what they said all forces inimical to the accession of J&K with India.
"I assure the people of the state that a central committee of the party would be organized at Delhi which would tour the entire state into its deep interiors and listen to the grievances with...
| | Off Beats | | | (1) A conspicuous shift seen in the BJP coterie that was lined up on the podium at Parade Grounds was about BJP former state president Ashok Khajuria who drew striking attention by sporting a saffron head gear. The BJP leader drew unprecedented response from the crowd as he addressed the people in mother tongue Dogri. The crowd responded in great reciprocation as Khajuria pinpointed the government's follies in easiest way of disseminating the information to the people having come from far and rural settings.
(2) As all the national important leaders who spoke on the occasion were offered Dogra turbans by the state party, all but senior BJP leader Lal Krishan Advani wore off the turbans whi...
| | Congress, National Conference unnerved by BJP's 'show'? | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 24: Bhartiya Janta Party today rocked the strongest ever gathering of Jammuites who stood testimony to greatest ever assurance by the saffron contingent to usher peace, prosperity and development into the state while nailing all detrimental facets into their coffins. Jampacked parade ground and swelling crowd outside the entry gates on both sides of the ground was enough to give worries to the local Congress and Natonal Conference leaders as impressive show of strength by the state unit of the BJP has set a new bench mark for their rivals to match.
"Jammu has not seen such a huge rally in the recent years by any one political party", was the unanimous commen...
| | Police act mischievously; nab bar staff, but free goons | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 24: Police tonight acted mischievously when they arrested three staffers of Royal Bar at Gole Market, Gandhi Nagar, but let go two goons who threatened them of dire consequences in case they demanded money from them.
Two goons came to the bar at about 8.30 pm and had drinks. However, when they came out without making payment, bar staffers -- Jagdish Singh, Ravi Kumar and Jaidev Singh alias Kaka -- followed them and stopped them on the road outside.
When they asked the drunkards to foot the bill, the latter started pushing them and threatened them of dire consequences if they demanded money from them.
While the inebriated men pushed the three bar sta...

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 24: The national BJP yesterday adopted a comprehensive political resolution on Jammu and Kashmir explaining its point of view and criticizing the Congress-led UPA Government's approach towards the troubled state. The resolution, in particular, held the Congress responsible for all the troubles in the state and enunciated its three-point solution to the problem facing the state.
The resolution, among other things, described the Nehruvian approach to the state as the mother of all ills. The BJP resolution was not just critical of Pakistan and Kashmiri extremists and separatists, but it was also highly critical of the New Delhi-appointed three interlocutor...
| | No heart beats for Art 370 in Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 24: The people who demand abrogation of Article 370 do not know that in its present form it serves their interests. This is what a senior lawyer said during a discussion in a local hotel in the summer capital today.
Article 370 of the Indian constitution that guarantees special status to the state is widely discussed across Jammu Kashmir yet again. The Kashmiris have shown total indifference. The people by and large believe that it serves no purpose. Article 238 that contained the heart and soul of Article 370 has been omitted from the constitution some fifty years ago. What is left behind is useless, they believe.
Pertinent to mention Article 370 reads: ...
| | Interlocutors' flawed approach: Conciliation of Jammu imperative | | | RUSTAM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 24: Kashmir-based separatist and "mainstream" organizations, including Jamat-e-Islami, APHC (M). JKLF, NC, PDP and so on, continue to express the view that no solution is possible without the involvement of Kashmiri Muslims. In fact, they have been only reiterating their old stand. They have not saying anything new. They have been saying so ever since Pakistan came into being and Jammu and Kashmir acceded to India as per the provisions of the Indian Independence Act of 1947. The Delhi-appointed interlocutors have also been expressing almost similar views. They have been simply referring to the aspirations of the people of Kashmir and hinting at the pos...
| | Freedom of expression, a basic fundamental right: GPC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 24: The Guwahati Press Club (GPC) Ambari too has come up with severe criticism of J&K government for stopping the advertisements to Early Times without issuing any prior notice or providing a valid reason for the same.
In a democratic set up, the freedom of expression is one of the basic fundamental rights that a free state carries along.
Banning of advertisement to the Early Times newspaper on unreasonable grounds apparently hints towards J&K government's machinations to stop free flow of facts to the people.
This is highly condemnable and against the ethical freedom of the press which is the fourth estate that showcases the facts and figures to the publi...

JAMMU, Dec 24: The Calicut Press Club (CPC) Kozhikode, Kerala has also lamented the state government for imposing a ban on the advertisements to Early Times that too without reason or rhyme.
The denial of government advertisements to Early Times is an attack on the freedom of Press. | | Denial of advertisements to ET murder of democracy: Rashid | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 24: President Kashmir Press Association Rashid Rahi has criticized the NC led coalition government for adopting a discriminatory approach towards Early Times newspaper.
He termed the government action as highly deplorable and unethical. It is not only surprising but questionable that government continues to gag press in this era when it is only media which is exposing the wrong doings and loopholes in the functioning and deliverance of governance world over in order to bring transparency and order in the public life.
In a statement issued today, Rashid said such tactics of selective discrimination and harassment at various levels against ET will not stop t...
| | Govt targeting ET for truthful, honest reporting: Muzaffar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 24: Awami National Conference (ANC) president Muzaffar Shah has condemned vindictive attitude resorted to by the NC led coalition government against Early Times. He said that such tactics are aimed to muzzle freedom of press.
Early Times is being harassed for its impartial reporting. It is one of the few newspapers in the state which reports without fear or favour. Its reporting is always up to the mark. I think ET is being deprived of advertisements for bringing facts to the light. If honest and factual reporting is the basis of stoppage of advertisements then it is the most condemnable act on part of government, Muzaffar Shah said...
