Jammu, Feb 27: Media representing various national, international and local organizations today and boycotted the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly in protest against Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone's ruling that the "Media was under his control and the scribes cannot write and report the way they want things to be highlighted" . The entire journalists fraternity including the scribes from Kashmir staged dharna outside the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly complex , taking serious note of the move ,which they felt was onslaught on freedom of Press and amounted to gagging of media. They demanded that Speaker should withdraw the statement as to media has to work under their control.
It was in the middle of the proceedings in the House , Speaker's 'direction' came to the Press , in which emphasis was in asking the members to 'behave' and follow the rules of reporting strictly. Jammu, Feb 27: The on-going budget session of the Legislative Assembly (LA) has been no different for the scribes. Last year they were `persecuted' and today their pride was mauled on the floor of the house. The news makers became news once again as they staged a dharna outside the Assembly Complex.
The media persons boycotted the LA proceedings and walked out of the House when the Speaker stated that media was `subservient' to us. "They (media persons) have to do what we tell them to do", he said. Jammu, Feb 27: Following the directions from court for preparing forge documents and committing fraud with the court, the Police today lodged a case against Ravinder Gupta @ Gola Shah and his associate for selling land illegally to kin of a senior police officer to the rank of Sr Superintendent of Police.
Sources said that police today registered a case against Ravinder Gupta and his associate Jarnail Singh of Narwal Pain, Satwari on the direction of court for preparing forge documents and committing fraud with the court.
