SRINAGAR, Aug 20: With two more fatal casualties in Sopore and Bijbehara towns, number of the civilian demonstrators killed in different incidents of clashes with Police and CRPF since June 11th has reached 60. Even as the crowds continued demonstrations and attacks on Police stations and camps at several places in the Valley, authorities succeeded to maintain control on the supersensitive Hazratbal shrine where around 30,000 devout Muslims today participated in the afternoon prayers on occasion of second Friday of the holy month of Ramazan.
Informed sources told early Times that one of the youngsters wounded in last night's CRPF firing at Chinkipora, Sopore, succumbed to injuries at SKIMS in the wee hours today. He was identified as 18-year-old Mudassar Nazir Hajam S/o Nazir Ahmed Hajam. Jammu, Aug 20: Union Home Minister's amnesty to youth desirous of coming back from Pakistan administered Kashmir and other parts of Pakistan was welcomed by the public. Scores of youth have already returned under the amnesty package. After brief interrogation they were allowed to go home. It, however, has exposed the claims of the government viz-a-viz enforced disappearances.
The government has been saying that the youth shown in the list of disappeared persons by human rights groups had gone to Pakistan to seek arms training. But till date not a single person shown in such lists has returned.

JAMMU, Aug 20: Alleging harassment by the revenue staff of Majalta over the issuance of a state subject certificate in his favour, an 11th class student tried to end his life by consuming poison at his residence at Kail Pardhi in Majaltha area of Udhampur Wednesday last.
Identified as Raman Sharma (18), son of Gyan Chand Sharma, he was admitted to the GMC hospital here. He told The Early Times that on August 18, when he went to the office of Majaltha tehsildar for the issuance of state subject certificate to him, he was humiliated and harassed by the clerical staff.

Jammu, Aug 20: Panic gripped the old city area of Panjtirthi when a drunkard Punjab Police constable resorted to indiscriminate firing.
However, no casualty is reported in the incident. The incident occurred in Poonch House near Radio Station in Panjtirthi when a Punjab Police cop identified as Hardeep Singh of 2nd battalion under the influence of liquor opened four rounds of fire.
