1/29/2011 12:10:43 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 28: The two alliance partners National Conference and Congress once again failed to reach consensus on holding of Panchayat polls in the state, with latter insisting on incorporating 73rd and 74th amendments prior to conducting the elections. The cabinet sub committee which was announced earlier was formally set up today following differences that erupted during the cabinet meeting this morning. In the backdrop of urgency underlined by the Congress, the six member sub committee will hold its first meeting tomorrow to look into the other possibilities of how panchayts in the state could be further empowered and demcratised, which is the soul and spirit of the amendments Congress is asking for. Sources said even as there were vital issues to be taken up as part of the agenda, but the discussion on Panchayat polls with both partners sticking to respective stands dominated the deliberations and overshadowed all other matters. Congress ministers put their foot down in a firm manner insisting categorically that there will be no polls nor would any schedu...

Who identifies with state flag in JK?
1/29/2011 12:07:21 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 28: The National Conference and its coalition partner have sought stern action against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists who attacked the Finance Minister's car on Republic day and `desecrated' the state flag. The activists have been taken into custody and remanded to judicial custody. The verbal dual between National Conference (NC) and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) over the state flag has been going on for quite some time now. The BJP legislators even made some statements on the floor of the Legislative Assembly last year. However, as this dual continues; the commoner in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh seems totally indifferent to the issue. A question ar...

1/29/2011 12:06:45 AM
NEHA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 28: That the NC-Congress-led Government in the Jammu and Kashmir has been according a VVIP treatment to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and others and that the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre is doing the same is not at all surprising. Similarly, it should not surprise anyone in the country if the state government accorded a very special treatment to Geelani the other day and accommodated him in the "VIP lounge at the country's most sensitive" Srinagar airport, notwithstanding the fact that such thing happened for the "first time." After all, India is ruled by those who contemptuously dub as communal, anti-national, divisive, undemoc...
