Ahmed Ali Fayyaz JAMMU, Mar 22: They call it ‘Pakistan-sponsored separatist movement’ and ‘Islamabad’s proxy war’ but government functionaries in Jammu & Kashmir have burnt midnight oil in broad daylight to facilitate the movement of Kashmir’s separatist leaders during turmoil of 2008 and 2010. Without interpretations, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah disclosed in response to an opposition MLA’s cut motion that Government of Jammu & Kashmir had taken upon itself responsibility of not only providing Police protection and bulletproof cars not only to the Valley’s separatist leaders but also to their successors in the families and other relatives. 3/23/2011 1:08:39 AM
*Negotiations in Sept 2014 Syed Junaid Hashmi JAMMU, Mar 22: Lie nailed! In complete contrast to vehement claims of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, World Bank has seemingly put the controversial Rs. 750 crore Jammu and Kashmir Participatory Watershed Management (PWMP) in cold storage and approved Rs. 1500 crore project rural roads project for funding after removing objectionable Jammu and Kashmir state from the project. Omar Abdullah had specifically approached central government regarding Participatory Watershed Management Programme (PWMP) for which World Bank had committed allocation of Rs.750 crore. State government had even circulated an official handout claiming of having approach...

March 23, 1987: New Delhi committed a tactical mistake
`MUF would have crushed anti-national elements ruthlessly’
3/23/2011 1:05:07 AM
Flash back Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 22: The Assembly elections were held on March 23 in 1987. People, by and large, believe the `rigged elections’ opened a new chapter in Kashmir history. Twenty-four years down the line, a question haunts the saner elements in the state. Had Muslim United Front (MUF) formed the government, what would have the amalgam done? There is no denying the fact that most of the leaders of the MUF had separatist tendencies. But after taking over the government they would have ruthlessly crushed the “anti-national” elements like other governments. The JKLF leaders like Sheikh Abdul Hamid and Malik Muhammad Yasin and others were actively campaignin...

Mr Noorani, J&K neither South Tyrol nor Aaland Islands
3/23/2011 1:04:18 AM
STARK REALITY -- II RUSTAM EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 22: As for the handing over the Aaland Islands to Finland and South Tyrol to Italy is concerned, the students of history of First World War and its consequences know it full well that the occupation of the Aaland Islands and South Tyrol by Sweden and Austria, respectively, unlike the constitutional merger of Jammu and Kashmir with India, was not unlawful, and that both Finland and Italy were the rightful claimants to the transferred areas. That a particular system of management of and control over these areas was adopted is a different story. Hence, Noorani just cannot equate Jammu and Kashmir with Aaland Islands and South Tyrol...

Promoting Secessionism
3/23/2011 1:03:52 AM
MINCING NO WORDS NEHA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 22: A number of leading media houses and private TV news channels have been organizing conclaves for quite some time now. In fact, these have become an annual feature. NDTV, CNN-IBN, India Today and The Hindustan Times are some of them. These conclaves are no more than a platform for the selected few, including a few from foreign countries, who express their views on various issues of national, international and social import. India is a democratic country. Such conclaves need to be organized at regular intervals, as they do help the media form a definite opinion about those who speak and inform the general public as to what those wh...
