TOP STORY OF THE DAY
What forces Sagar to deny rotation?
Rahul Gandhi said Congress high command would decide
10/15/2011 1:31:36 AM
Early Times Report srinagar, Oct 14: It is both strange and confusing that even when the Congress general secretary, Rahul Gandhi has made it clear that it was for the Congress high command to decide on rotational CM in J&K, State Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar should dismiss reports that there will be rotation after Omar Abdullah completes three years in office. Sagar has made the statement even when there is no final word on the issue from either the Congress general secretary or any other source in 10 Janpath. Talking to a news agency in Srinagar Sagar has said the Congress High Command has clarified that there will be no rotation. The matter ends here. Sagar has not stated clearly when did the Congress high command make it clear after Rahul Gandhi's visit to the state that there would be no rotation? Sagar also said there is complete coordination between NC and Congress on all the issues and the two alliance partners have been taking policy decisions together. Would Sagar set the record straight right by stating where specifically does the coordi...

Bhaderwah still tense; police fire teargas shells to disperse youth who stoned them
10/15/2011 1:31:00 AM
Asif Ali Naik Jammu, Oct 14: As Bhaderwah continued to be tense for the third consecutive day today, police fired teargas shells to disperse the angry youth who stoned them outside Jamia Masjid after Friday prayers. At least eight to 10 persons, including police and CRPF personnel, were wounded, according to police sources. The tension in the communally-sensitive Bhaderwah town erupted Wednesday last after a woman history lecturer made certain "objectionable" and unwelcome utterances on a religion during routine discussion with students in the classroom. In protest, students of a particular community had demonstrated inside the college premises. Outsiders belonging to both the communiti...

IAS officer's Matriculation certificate is missing?
CVC wants clarification about Commissioner-Secretary's Date of Birth
10/15/2011 1:30:29 AM
Early Times Report srinagar, Oct 14: Taking cognizance of reports that an IAS officer of J&K cadre had 'overstayed' in service with the advantage of a surreptitious change in his date of birth (DOB), Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is understood to have asked for the officer's original Matriculation certificate. If highly placed bureaucratic sources are to be believed, the IAS officer has refused to produce the certificate with the claim that it had been "lost" in an official transit. Holding the rank of Commissioner-Secretary, the IAS officer has mentioned 25-12-1951 as his DOB and he is thus scheduled to reach superannuation on 31-12-2011. CVC's cause of action is said to have emerge...

Plebiscite In Kashmir -- II
10/15/2011 1:29:36 AM
Neha Jammu, Oct 14: It was hoped that the October 12 attack on Prashant Bhushan by some young nationalists would reform him or make him see reason and that he would withdraw the anti-India remarks he made at Varanasi. It turned out to be false hope. He defended what he said at Varanasi and reiterated that if after the plebiscite, it is found that Kashmiri Muslims are against India, then they should be allowed to become independent and have a dispensation of their own choice. He asserted that independence of Kashmir from India would be in the interest of Kashmir and India and warned that the continuation of the unwanted rule in Jammu and Kashmir would create in Kashmir Afghanistan-like situ...

Hunt begins amid hectic lobbying for slots in SVC and PSC
10/15/2011 1:23:22 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 14: Hectic lobbying has started by retired and retiring state government officials for coveted slots to be filled in the State Vigilance Commission, Public Service Commission, the proposed planning board and the state election commission. Authoritative sources have told Early Times that senior bureaucrats who have retired or are retiring in near future are making rounds of the politicians of ruling NC and the Congress to garner support for their nomination to the panels being worked out for these top slots. Some of the retiring senior bureaucrats are also in the race for these slots. It is reliably learnt that some senior ministers of cabinet are actively pu...

Separatists react too late over Yousuf's death…!
Mirwaiz still silent, soft towards Omar , NC......?
10/15/2011 1:22:50 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 14: Even as there was an alignment of mainstream political forces in the state over the killing of NC worker Syed Yousuf in taking head on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and NC, the separatists for at least a week remained mute spectators . They did not utter anything over the layers of corruption that were unfolded over passage of time. It was only when PDP took to the issue to streets after reverberating it in the Assembly, some separatists broke their silence and trained their guns on chief minister Omar Abdullah and his ruling regime. Ironically enough, the separatists in both moderate as well as hardliner camp who are otherwise vocal and prompt in reactin...

Defeat of Regressive Ideology?
10/15/2011 1:21:37 AM
Rustam Jammu, Oct 14: What did PDP president Mehbooba Mufti say while rejecting outright the reported suggestions of the interlocutors? She reportedly said: "Whatever we are hearing from the media about their final report, it is ridiculous and seems that they are trivializing the whole issue and reducing it to a mere administrative issue. Devolution of powers to panchayats or regional councils is the job of the state government and not of interlocutors, tasked with finding solution of Kashmir issue… Suggestions of Five Working Groups constituted by Prime Minister of India were more solid, having potential of changing entire situation". The otherwise very vocal Newly-appointed additional...

Support for Bhushan in Kashmir is not support for Anna's movement
10/15/2011 1:20:46 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 14: Invariably people and the political leaders in the Kashmir valley remain unmoved, unaffected and untouched by even major events in rest of the country. And if a group of people, led by Langate MLA, Er Abdul Rashid, and the separatists, besides the members of the Kashmir Bar Association, condemned the attack on a Supreme Court lawyer, Prashant Bhushan, in New Delhi the other day one need not feel amazed and intrigued. Abdul Rashid went to the extent of staging a protest dharna in the state's summer capital while blaming a small group of Hindu fundamentalists for manhandling Prashant Bhushan, who is a member of the team Anna. What is surprising is that whe...

Will Jammu province be divided to set up Greater Kashmir?
Interlocutors' Report
10/15/2011 1:20:02 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 14: A fortnight ago, two prominent citizens living in Jammu, one a Dogra intellectual and writer and another a displaced Kashmiri Hindu leader addressed a joint press conference delineating the parameters on which they would judge the final report of the three interlocutors appointed by the Government of India to find a "political solution" to the problems confronting the sensitive and militant and separatist-infested Jammu and Kashmir. The prominent citizens defined that the interlocutors report would have a negative bearing on the national interests if there is any reference in the final report which directly or indirectly accepts the separatist contention ...

PDP women wing holds massive protest against state govt
10/15/2011 1:14:23 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 14 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said that present dispensation headed by Omar Abdullah has lost faith of the people because this regime has failed to give justice to the common masses. Party further observed that National Conference led regime has crossed all limits of corruption and common masses were bearing brunt of prevailing corruption in the administration. Addressing a protest demonstration organized by the women wing of the party against rampant corruption in the NC and State Government, senior PDP leader Vijay Dogra today said that one and only noticeable achievement of the present dispensation was legalizing corruption. The rally which st...
