Bhaderwah still tense; police fire teargas shells to disperse youth who stoned them | | | Asif Ali Naik
Jammu, Oct 14: As Bhaderwah continued to be tense for the third consecutive day today, police fired teargas shells to disperse the angry youth who stoned them outside Jamia Masjid after Friday prayers.
At least eight to 10 persons, including police and CRPF personnel, were wounded, according to police sources.
The tension in the communally-sensitive Bhaderwah town erupted Wednesday last after a woman history lecturer made certain "objectionable" and unwelcome utterances on a religion during routine discussion with students in the classroom.
In protest, students of a particular community had demonstrated inside the college premises. Outsiders belonging to both the communiti...
| | IAS officer's Matriculation certificate is missing? | CVC wants clarification about Commissioner-Secretary's Date of Birth | | Early Times Report
srinagar, Oct 14: Taking cognizance of reports that an IAS officer of J&K cadre had 'overstayed' in service with the advantage of a surreptitious change in his date of birth (DOB), Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is understood to have asked for the officer's original Matriculation certificate. If highly placed bureaucratic sources are to be believed, the IAS officer has refused to produce the certificate with the claim that it had been "lost" in an official transit.
Holding the rank of Commissioner-Secretary, the IAS officer has mentioned 25-12-1951 as his DOB and he is thus scheduled to reach superannuation on 31-12-2011. CVC's cause of action is said to have emerge...
| | Attack on Prashant a warning for supporters of separatists | Plebiscite In Kashmir -- II | | Neha
Jammu, Oct 14: It was hoped that the October 12 attack on Prashant Bhushan by some young nationalists would reform him or make him see reason and that he would withdraw the anti-India remarks he made at Varanasi. It turned out to be false hope. He defended what he said at Varanasi and reiterated that if after the plebiscite, it is found that Kashmiri Muslims are against India, then they should be allowed to become independent and have a dispensation of their own choice. He asserted that independence of Kashmir from India would be in the interest of Kashmir and India and warned that the continuation of the unwanted rule in Jammu and Kashmir would create in Kashmir Afghanistan-like situ...

| | Separatists react too late over Yousuf's death…! | Mirwaiz still silent, soft towards Omar , NC......? | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 14: Even as there was an alignment of mainstream political forces in the state over the killing of NC worker Syed Yousuf in taking head on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and NC, the separatists for at least a week remained mute spectators . They did not utter anything over the layers of corruption that were unfolded over passage of time. It was only when PDP took to the issue to streets after reverberating it in the Assembly, some separatists broke their silence and trained their guns on chief minister Omar Abdullah and his ruling regime.
Ironically enough, the separatists in both moderate as well as hardliner camp who are otherwise vocal and prompt in reactin...
| | Kashmir leadership opposes empowerment of Jammu | Defeat of Regressive Ideology? | | Rustam
Jammu, Oct 14: What did PDP president Mehbooba Mufti say while rejecting outright the reported suggestions of the interlocutors? She reportedly said: "Whatever we are hearing from the media about their final report, it is ridiculous and seems that they are trivializing the whole issue and reducing it to a mere administrative issue.
Devolution of powers to panchayats or regional councils is the job of the state government and not of interlocutors, tasked with finding solution of Kashmir issue… Suggestions of Five Working Groups constituted by Prime Minister of India were more solid, having potential of changing entire situation".
The otherwise very vocal Newly-appointed additional...
| | Support for Bhushan in Kashmir is not support for Anna's movement | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 14: Invariably people and the political leaders in the Kashmir valley remain unmoved, unaffected and untouched by even major events in rest of the country. And if a group of people, led by Langate MLA, Er Abdul Rashid, and the separatists, besides the members of the Kashmir Bar Association, condemned the attack on a Supreme Court lawyer, Prashant Bhushan, in New Delhi the other day one need not feel amazed and intrigued.
Abdul Rashid went to the extent of staging a protest dharna in the state's summer capital while blaming a small group of Hindu fundamentalists for manhandling Prashant Bhushan, who is a member of the team Anna.
What is surprising is that whe...
