Rotational CM issue comes to haunt NC! | Dice loaded, New Delhi begins planning exit strategy for Omar | | Syed Junaid Hashmi
Jammu, Oct 1: In complete contrast to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's repeated claims over the issue of rotational Chief Minister, Congress leadership at New Delhi has loaded the dice and is reportedly thinking on the lines of giving the hi-tech man a job in the national capital for the next three years.
Though many in National Conference (NC) would dismiss this as "media speculation" but the fact remains that Congress think-tank in New Delhi has begun discussing, though in closed room, post-Omar scenario. A top Congress leader from the national capital briefed Early Times about the new line of action and affirmed that issue is not of bringing Omar in the union cabinet but who would lead congress-NC coalition.
He said "We have potential candidates but for Jammu and Kashmir, you need a man with extraordinary wisdom. Any further experimentation would prove disastrous for both Congress and National Conference (NC)." He reiterated that Omar has done his bit and now, Congress should run the government for the next three years.
Though the divided state unit of congre...

NC kingmaker's death exposes political corruption in J&K | BJP's cross-voting, NC's and PDP's tickets to defeated candidates and businessmen, freezing of action against corrupt officials and reducing Commissions to post-retirement rehabilitation centres are a few indicators | | Ahmed Ali Fayyaz
SRINAGAR, Oct 1: Clamour over a custodial death is paramount to all issues in a conflict area. It quite often eclipses issues and concerns of equal or more importance. That is exactly what has begun to happen over the death of National Conference's kingmaker Syed Mohammad Yousuf. Death of an accused at Chief Minister's residence, whether natural or by torture, is undoubtedly unprecedented. But, should the politicians and representatives of other institutions restrict their concern to only the investigation of 'torture killing" and punishment to the "killers"?
Even on the presumption of torture killing, political corruption remains the fundamental concern. It is arguably n...
| | Political 'Golmaal' over Afzal Guru, all wrestled well! | | | Syed Junaid Hashmi
Jammu, Oct 1: Unthinkable happened. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted and writer-turned-politician Engineer Rasheed rushed to speaker of legislative assembly with a resolution seeking clemency for parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
On the fateful day when the debate was to take place inside legislative assembly of Jammu and Kashmir, a wrestling match followed with MLAs taking sides, demanding whatever they could think off under the open sky. To make themselves audible, they resorted to heroics unheard of. Some were over the table, some under, few others walked out; some kicked seating arrangements while one preferred reading international page of a two day old ne...
| | Yet another case of NC Govt's insensitivity | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 1: When the National Conference led Government allowed identifying names of women raped in Jammu and Kashmir during the last five years in its reply to a question on the floor of the Legislative Council it clearly violated the Supreme Court ruling on the issue.
And the leader of the opposition, Mehbooba Mufti, was quite quick and sharp in raising the issue. She was quite right when she said that the career and lives of 1336 women had been ruined after the Government, in its reply, had identified them for having been raped. The Government had gone to the extent of identifying the parentage and the place of birth of these unfortunate women which left no scope...
| | BJP, JKNPP remain mum to strike a chord? | Custodial death of NC worker | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 1: Separatists in Kashmir valley took lead in condemning alleged custodial killing of a senior National Conference (NC) worker while mainstream political parties especially Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) are yet to make up their mind.
Firebrand Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani expressed serious concern over custodial killing of a National Conference (NC) worker. Mainstream parties like Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and JKNPP not only failed to condemn the gruesome act but are yet to issue an official handout to clear their stand over the alleged killing.
The silence of BJP in particular has evoked severe cri...
| | Answer four questions before Titanic sinks | | | Early Times Report
srinagar, Oct 1: The death of a ruling National Conference (NC) leader in mysterious circumstances has jolted the ruling party and the administration as relatives blame the chief minister and minister of state for home for the NC leader's death.
The first most important question is not whether the deceased died at the camp office of the Chief Minister or at the office of the minister of state for home or whether he died in the custody of the crime branch sleuths. The most important question is to ascertain whether the person died due to natural causes or because of torture and intimidation.
It is highly unlikely that the person complained of an upset stomach and actua...
| | Krishna, Antony treading different paths | Indo-Pak Ties | | Rustam
Jammu, Oct 1: Something is patently wrong with the Congress-led UPA Government. The government is slowly but surly drifting towards the rock. It is in complete disarray. Ministers are acting independently of prime minister and speaking in many voices. No body knows who is running the country. The worst aspect of the whole situation as it exists today in the country is that there is no consensus between the foreign ministry and defence ministry as far as the Indo-Pak relations are concerned. The situation is indeed horrible. Everyone in the country is feeling perturbed, disturbed and alarmed and even thinking
Foreign Minister SM Krishna appears determined to befriend the unscrupul...
| | Massive irregularities in CAPD Rajouri | Storage, transportation charges register 50% decrease! | | Shafiq Mir
rajouri, Oct 1: Massive irregularities have come to fore in the CAPD Rajouri. According to the official record, the officials of CAPD Rajouri tehsil have withdrawn an amount of Rs 1 crore and 83 lakh as local transportation and storage rent charges for the period of six months in 2010. It is pertinent to mention here that in the year 2010, the scale of the ration give...
| | The ongoing assembly session and Jammu | It's All Kashmir | | Neha
Jammu, Oct 1: The 9-day-long session of the Jammu and Kashmir legislature started on September 26. Five days are over and four days are left. No business was transacted on the first day. Only obituaries and nothing else. The next two days witnessed an ugly drama enacted by the MLAs, mostly belonging to the Congress. The Congress ministers and MLAs, without any exception, indulged in unruly activities with a view to making the assembly dysfunctional and they were successful. The entire nation witnessed the ugly drama, with the Congress MLAs creating disturbances in the House on an unprecedented scale and shouting slogans against the BJP. No business was transacted. | | Appeal to Hon'ble speaker by Shri Chaman Lal Gupta BJP MLA | | | Sir,
I had raised a question during the last session of the state assembly seeking a reply from the government regarding the decision to stop government advertisements to the daily Early Times published from Jammu.
I had also spoken about the highhandedness of the government and its arbitrary, whimsical dispensation regarding distribution of official advertisements to the various newspapers published in the state.
Despite repeated requests, the state government did not come forward with any reply to my question and the result has been that through its decision to ignore my question the state government has covertly accepted that it does not have a reasonable answer to my question.
