Early Times Reporter Srinagar | June 17 Defence Minister A. K. Antony today said that the coming assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir would be the most free and fair and there would be no compromise on human rights even as the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the people of the State were turning towards trade and development activities and showing no interest in terrorist or separatist agenda. The two were speaking at a high level meeting between the senior officers of the State government and ministry of defence here this afternoon. Deputy Chief Minister, Muzaffar Hussain Baig, Defence Secretary, Vijay Singh, Chief of the Army Staff, General Deepak Kapoor, Chief Secretary, S. S. Kapur, Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda and senior officers of civil, army, police, security forces and intelligence agencies also attended. Army plans Siachen trek despite Pak protest

New Delhi | June 17 Notwithstanding Pakistan's vociferous protests, Indian Army will organise a civilian mountaineering and trekking expedition to the forbidding Siachen Glacier for the second year in a row in October-November this year. Even before the planned Siachen trekking kicks off, the Indian Army will take out its own expedition to the glacial heights of Khatling on the Indo-Tibetan border in Uttarakhand later this month. "The Siachen trekking expedition this year is in its planning stage and we are determined to take civilian mountaineers to the Glacier this year. Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 17 The first batch of Amarnath pilgrims comprising around 3000 devotees of Lord shiva was flagged off amidst tight security arrangements from Yatri bhawan, base camp of Amarnath pilgrims, in Jammu by Education Minister Gulchain Singh Charak on Tuesday morning. Large number of security personnel were deployed along the city route and Jammu -Srinagar national highway to protect pilgrims. Early Times Reporter Srinagar | June 17 A committee of senior officers of the State government, army and the ministry of defence, headed by Chief Secretary, S. S. Kapur would address all pending land issues between the State government and the army in Jammu and Kashmir.
