TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Delhi blast silences champions of competitive separatism in Valley
Omar stops Tweeting for Guru; Mirwaiz arrives in Europe; Mehbooba worried over Srinagar
9/10/2011 12:22:00 AM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz srinagar, Sept 9: Politicians of all hues in Kashmir valley---mainstream as well separatist---have dramatically stopped their rhetoric over clemency to Afzal Guru after death of 13 persons in a bomb blast outside Delhi High Court premises on Wednesday. In the changing scenario, nobody seems to be concerned about the fate of a resolution floated by an independent MLA in Legislative Assembly. Until yesterday, Kashmiri politicians seemed to be jostling against one another in stealing credit of saving the Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru from the gallows. A resolution in Tamil Nadu Assembly, seeking mercy for Rajiv Gandhi's killers, led to histrionics by champions of competitive separatism in Srinagar. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took lead over his competitors in both camps with his trademark Tweets on Guru. Perhaps more dramatic was the pat he got from his jingoistic father Farooq Abdullah, now a Minister in the UPA government at the Centre. While the opposition PDP was still weighing the options, independent MLA from Langet, Engineer Sheikh Abdul Rashid scramb...

Investigative journalists must wait, let sleuths do their job
9/10/2011 12:09:31 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 9: The terror attack in Delhi high court proves beyond doubt that those bent upon striking innocent civilians through explosions and deadly weapons are still at large. In a country of 1.26 billion people looking for a group of terrorists is like seeking a needle in a haystack. Those who intend doing politics over terror strikes either by pressurizing the investigating agencies to rush to conclusions or by trying to seek political mileage out of the tragedy by blaming the security agencies, must learn to behave as civilized and responsible citizens if they cannot behave as responsible politicians. If the security agencies are brought under political pressure...

Congress ministers from Kashmir toeing NC line...?
9/10/2011 12:07:53 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 9: Congress on account of being main ally of the NC led coalition government in the state cannot take individual decisions on key issues. Following coalition dharma in true spirit it has in fact been following NC decisions, seldom trying to assert leave alone, imposing its views or interests on the coalition partner. What comes as added advantage for NC is the attitude and conduct of some Congress ministers from Kashmir Valley who virtually follow and toe the NC line in almost all matters of governance. Call it politics of opportunism or 'playing safe game', these ministers have never asserted or presented themselves as ministers of Congress party on any iss...

How could Kashmiri leadership dictate terms?
Jammu Crucial Factor
9/10/2011 12:04:45 AM
Neha Jammu, Sept 9: It is now clear that the Kashmiri leaders, including those belonging to the NC, the PDP, the APHC, the JKLF and so on, will not change their attitude towards India and that they want a system that is outside the Indian constitutional framework and that is acceptable to the Kashmiri-speaking Sunnis. The NC, which is a Kashmir-based outfit and which has little support-base both in Jammu province and Ladakh, has made it loud and clear that it would not accept anything short of greater autonomy. In other words, it has made it clear that it will not accept any of the Central laws and any of the Central institutions and that it would accept only that solutions that panders to...

Appeal to Hon'ble speaker by Shri Chaman Lal Gupta BJP MLA
9/9/2011 11:55:43 PM
Sir, I had raised a question during the last session of the state assembly seeking a reply from the government regarding the decision to stop government advertisements to the daily Early Times published from Jammu. I had also spoken about the highhandedness of the government and its arbitrary, whimsical dispensation regarding distribution of official advertisements to the various newspapers published in the state. Despite repeated requests, the state government did not come forward with any reply to my question and the result has been that through its decision to ignore my question the state government has covertly accepted that it does not have a reasonable answer to my question. Hon'b...
