2 Army soldiers killed in ambush, 3 in mishaps

Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 29: In one of the deadliest attacks of this year, two soldiers were killed early on Friday in an ambush by terrorists in Tandar village of district Kishtwar while three others have been reported killed in different mishaps. An army spokesman said that on specific information 11 RR and 9RR troops conducted a search operation in Tandar area of Dachan while the army was on way some terrorists who had already on ambushed in which two soldiers receive bullet injuries.The incident was occurred about 240 km northeast of Jammu and 70 kilometer away from Kishtwar Army Headquarter. "This came as a surprise to the Indian troops, when they (militants) fired with their automatic AK-47 assault rifles in Tandar area. Two soldiers were killed - one of the rank of Lance Naik namely Jagdish Raj of 11 RR and Raj Kumar resident of Palmar a sepoy of 159 Territorial Army.They were rushed to Kishtwar Headquarter but they succumbed to injuries. EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 29: In a major move toward need driven and balanced development at micro-level, the government has decided to factor in district level aspirations in formulation and implementation of all ambitious centrally funded, central sector and state sector schemes. As per new scheme of things, the schemes shall be put to discussion before the members of the District Development Boards for taking into account local requirements and feedback. EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Jan 29: Continuing its steady performance, J&K Bank registered a net profit of Rs. 392.33 crore for the nine months ended December 2009, up by 18 per cent when compared to the net profit of Rs.331.16 crore of the corresponding period of the previous financial year. For the third quarter ended December 2009, the net profit was registered at Rs 139.99 crores as against Rs 120.67 crores during the same quarter last financial year. EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Jan 29: The Srinagar-Jammu national highway was closed Friday morning following fresh snowfall and slippery road conditions in the Jawahar tunnel area, a Jammu and Kashmir traffic department official said. RBI raises CRR by 75 bps

AGENCIES New Delhi Jan 29: In a “harsher-than-expected” move, the country’s central bank on Friday raised the Cash Reserve Ratio by 75 basis points (bps), making a strong pitch for the government’s fight against rising inflation. The CRR, or the portion of deposits banks are required to park with the apex bank, will be hiked in two stages -- 50 basis points from February 13 and another 25 basis from February 27 – from the present 5 percent, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor D Subbarao told the chief executives of commercial banks here. Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 29: The police arrested 30 youth for their alleged involvement in stone pelting incidents during the preceding night from the city. The arrestees are likely to be detained under public safety act (PSA). Reports said the police raided several houses in Aali Kadal, Saraf Kadal, Maharaj Gunj, Gojwara, Sakeel Pora, Nawa Kadal, Safa Kadal and Rajouri Kadal during the preceding night and arrested around 30 youth.
