| Govt axe falls on Cooperative Bank directors | | | |

JAMMU, DEC 21: As you sow so shall you reap. This old maxim somehow tells about the sad state of affairs in Citizens’ Cooperative Bank. Its board of directors has been superseded by higher authorities for alleged gross irregularities and numerous complaints. Now the affairs of the bank are to be looked after by Divisional Commissioner Jammu.
Earlier, successive directors of the bank have been hitting news headlines for one misdeeds or the other. Board of directors was comprised of nine directors elected by the members but due to the demise of Ram Sahai, who was one of the directors, only eight were at the helm of affairs, including its chairman.
Minister for Cooperatives, Dr. Manaohar Lal Sharma, said that there were heaps of complaints against the board of directors besides gross irregularities were found in balance sheets of the bank, forcing the Government to take the action against the directors.

Hours after they denied prominent Jammu and Kashmir mainstream politician, Mehbooba Mufti a visa on security grounds, the Pakistan government on Monday (December 21) has now contradicted its position. Srinagar, Dec 21 A ruling National Conference MP today alleged PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti was denied visa by Pakistan for her "anti-Kashmiri role and for hampering the dialogue process".
"The role played by PDP leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in depriving Kashmiris of their rights" also weighed in the mind of authorities before denying visa to Mehbooba, said Mehboob Beg, a senior NC leader and an MP from Anantnag.

According to the notification issued today by Registrar General MK Hanjura, the Chief Justice has nominated vacation judges for both wings of High Court to hear matters which may require immediate or prompt action.
For Jammu wing, Justice JP Singh has been nominated as the vacation Judge for whole the vacation period except from January 4, to January 8, 2010, which is no work period for the High Court.

People of Jammu witnessed the coldest night of the season as the temperature fell to 4.6 degree Celsius -- four notches below normal.
