2/27/2011 12:31:30 AM
ET REPORT SRINAGAR, Feb 26: Accusing New Delhi of `blatantly subverting' democracy in Jammu Kashmir, Mufti Sayed said the youth were pushed to militancy as a result of denial of democratic and fundamental rights to them. He said commencement of militancy opened a new and saddest chapter of pain and agony. "Thousands lost their lives, graveyards expanded, happy families got ruined, and democratic space shrank further", he said. The former union Home Minister said Indian democracy emerged weaker, not stronger in gaining the confidence of the only state that had defied the logic of partition in acceding to it on the basis of shared ideals. NC legislative Party meeting
Mantra for legislators: maintain regularity....... do not react to opposition provocations
2/27/2011 12:30:03 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Feb 26: Even though it was a routine , rather customary meeting held every time ahead of the Legislative session, the MLAs of ruling National Conference got a typical 'classroom' instruction from the High Command in today's meeting: Maintain regularity.......be patient and maintain restraint.......do not react to Opposition reactions. In the Legislative party meeting held this evening at party headquarters, the ruling party had some serious business too on agenda: discussing the general strategy to be adopted on key matters inside both the houses besides deliberating the bills and resolutions which will come up during the proceedings of the session. These direct...

Gujjar-Paharis On Warpath
ST status for Paharis doesn't fit in the NC scheme of things
2/27/2011 12:29:35 AM
RUSTAM EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 26: The National Conference (NC) leadership has, it seems, gone totally confused. It doesn't know the meaning and implications of what it says. And, the result has been that some of those who discuss things publicly or in the Parliament have become a laughing stock, with the people not taking them seriously. Things in the ruling NC have worsened to the extent that even the ideologues of the party have lost their way and that they have started speaking a language that has the potential of pitting one section against the other and provoking a civil war in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). They have started speaking a language that is inconsist...

One of the prominent leaders of the National Conference and Member of Rajya Sabha Mohammad Shafi Uri has even gone to the extent of telling the House of Elders that these interlocutors have "nearly failed in achieving their goal." Sayed seeks Pak's cooperation
2/27/2011 12:26:17 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR Feb 26: Pakistan too must extend a helping hand in shaping a final and lasting solution to the festering Kashmir problem. We appreciate the concerns of Pakistan over the river waters flowing from our state into that country. No one in this state or rest of the country would like Pakistan to become a dessert. What we need is joint projects that would help J&K as well, a sharing of natures bounties and benefits that flows out of it. There are voices of moderation in that country that need to be listened to by the Pakistani establishment and the peace constituency in this country. Together we can script a new destiny for the South Asian region. If Kashmir has b...
