2/6/2012 12:37:06 AM
Bashir Assad jammu, Feb 5: Believe it, in village Damhal of Kokernag (Breng) constituency) where there are 6 panches and 1 sarpanch, the Education Department has opened 9 new schools and has upgraded 6 existing schools only to accommodate relatives of Peerzada Muhammad Sayed. Out of 9 new openings 7 primary schools have been created under Sarva Shikhsha Abhyan (SSA) and two schools under state sector. In Takya Damhal mohala 3 new schools have been created while as in Shah mohala, Sheikh mohala, Bonepora and Herepora 2 schools each have been opened to give benefit to the relatives of the minister. Prominent among the beneficiaries are Sheeba Jan w/o nephew of Peerzada and Arjumand Anwar w/o of brother of Peerzada. Interestingly 2 SSA schools of Takya Damhal are operating in single rented shud which once used to be poultry form of Peerzada, however, norms provide that new openings can be effected at minimum distance of 1 km from the existing one, while as Damhal village is spread over not more than half km. One more interesting point is that Girls Middle School Damhal has been upg...

2/6/2012 12:36:46 AM
Early Times Report jammu, Feb 5: Following the recent expose involving Education Minister's son, the Board of School Education (BOSE) finds itself in deep crisis. Nobody is ready to trust the BOSE for its `involvement' in helping the Education Minister's foster son qualify matriculation examination in 2009. A detailed report about Peerzada's son was published by local English daily last week. Taking cognizance of the report, the Chief Minister ordered a probe into the allegations. The probe was entrusted to Crime Branch. Last Tuesday, the CB officials raided the BOSE office at Bemina in the summer capital and seized record pertaining to Peerzada's son. The senior officials were also qu...

Malhotra unanimous choice as LC chairman
In dilemma, NC silent over Dy Chairman's name
2/6/2012 12:36:33 AM
Early Times Report jammu, Feb 5: Having kept the task pending for over a year, the government has finally decided to conduct proper elections for the prestigious post of Chairman Legislative Council on February 24. Even as it remains a foregone conclusion that Amrit Malhotra of Congress, who at present is the acting Chairman, will retain the Chair, it remains to be seen whether the government applies the same parameters for choosing the member for Deputy Chairman post as in the Legislative Assembly from the opposition party or sticks to same traditional practice of having one from other ruling ally, NC. According to sources the alliance National Conference and Congress have already agr...

Simmering discontent in NC over delay in party elections
2/6/2012 12:02:50 AM
Early Times Report srinagar, Feb 5: Internal bickering in the NC has been delaying party elections which should normally have been held at three year intervals. This has resulted in the party cardes both at the middle and the lower rungs raising eye brows. Interestingly, elections for the party President, Vice President and the General Secretary are also overdue now. The last party elections were held in the NC in 2005 when Dr. Farooq Abdullah was made the President and Sheikh Nazir was re-elected as the General Secretary. Without fear of any disciplinary action the middle and lower rung leaders of the party have been openly accusing the top leadership of the NC for its failure to hold ...

2/6/2012 12:02:33 AM
Early Times Report srinagar, Feb 5: The Justice Bedi commission probing the death of NC worker Haji Yusuf has fixed February 13th as the next date of hearing. Following the affidavits filed before the commission by the family of the deceased NC worker, counter affidavits have been filed before the commission by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, MOS home, Nasir Aslam Wani, CM's political advisor, Devender Singh Rana and inspector general of police (crime) Raja Aijaz Ali. The counsels for these have sought more time from the commission to rebut the allegations leveled by the family members of the deceased NC worker. The custodial death of Haji Yusuf had rocked the State with allegations that th...

NPP, BJP tear into Congress & NC, demand justice for Jammu
Duty Over?
2/6/2012 12:02:22 AM
Neha Jammu, Feb 5: The Panthers Party and the BJP have taken on the ruling NC and Congress and accused them and New Delhi of perpetrating injustice after injustice on the people of Jammu province. The immediate provocations were two. One was the exclusion of the decaying Jammu lakes like Mansar and Surinsar from the ambit of the additional package of Rs 356 crore sanctioned by New Delhi only the other day. This package is meant exclusively for the Dal dwellers. Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, who lobbied in New Delhi for the additional package for Dal Lake, thanked the Prime Minister, the AICC president and UPA chairperson and the Union Health Minister day before yesterday saying it was ...

MLAs versus Panchayats- government fails to define role
2/6/2012 12:02:02 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 5: The failure of Omar Abdullah led coalition government to define the role of both Legislators and panchayats in the state, has finally rendered the Panchayats redundant as the MLAs sensing alienation are hindering the process of development. The three tier Panchayat Raj in Jammu and Kashmir has crashed before it could take off. Legislators and the administration at district and block level have almost stalled the functioning of panchayats in the state. Panches and sarpanches on the other hand have started poking their nose in administrative affairs, more so, when the government has failed to define their role in the development of their respective areas. T...

Congress being roundly denounced by many parties, including allies
Omar Praises Mamata -- II
2/6/2012 12:01:48 AM
Rustam Jammu, Feb 5: The attitude of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah towards the Congress is also no different. He doesn't appreciate many stands of the Congress and even praises West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) president Mamata Banerjee. For example, Omar Abdullah did not appreciate what was done to Salman Rushdie, a recognised author. Rushdie was not allowed by the fanatics to come to Jaipur to participate in the Literary Festival last December. The Congress made common cause with the fanatics and created a situation that forced Rushdie to cancel his Jaipur trip. Omar Abdullah also didn't like the move of the Union Government to impose restrictions on the social netwo...

NC believes in only vote bank politics....?
2/6/2012 12:01:22 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 5: NC has done it again and proved that it is an undeclared policy of the party not to care and bother for the communities who do not form their vote bank or matter to them politically. Unfortunately it is the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who is doing it himself again and again. Last year it was the function of the Youth body one particular community that doesn't matter as a vote bank to NC and today it were the followers of Guru Ravi Dass ji who wanted Chief Minister to grace the occasion as chief guest. The only difference in the two functions in the context of CM staying away is that last time the hopes of teh organsiers were dashed at the last ...

2/6/2012 12:01:11 AM

Thousands of Guru Ravi Dass Ji devotees who had assembled at parade ground today to participate in the celebrations were dismayed after CM did not keep his promise made with the representatives of Guru Ravi Dass Sabha earlier. It's not the first time that the CM betrayed the Jammuites but previously on many occasions including the Guru Ravi Dass sabha by not attending the function last year too. The decision of Chief Minister as well as Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand to stay away from the f...

Loss to NC is gain to PDP in J&K
2/6/2012 12:00:55 AM
Early Times Report jammu, Feb 5: Which political party is likely to get benefit from the gradual erosion in the size and strength of the ruling National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir? This question has assumed importance following reports that even the staunch supporters of the National Conference have started getting disillusioned with the party led by Dr Farooq Abdullah. In fact for the growing peoples' disenchantment with the ruling party Farooq is not being held responsible. Who then is responsible for the mess in which the NC is finding itself in? Those who surround Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, are believed to be responsible for erosion in the party's influence on people. S...
