Cong to re-induct Saroori, NC clears Mir Saifullah
4/12/2012 12:01:52 AM
Bashir Assad Jammu, Apr 11: Though belated, decks have finally been cleared for the long-awaited expansion cum reshuffle of the state council of ministers in Omar Abdullah led coalition government. The National Conference -Congress coalition government headed by Omar Abdullah has finally removed all impediments and stage is all set for cabinet expansion/reshuffle. Informed sources said NC had decided to induct MLA Kupwara Mir Saifullah against its only vacant slot while Congress has given nod to re-induction of MLA Inderwal GM Saroori and MLA Dooru Ghulam Ahmad Mir to fill up its two vacant slots. Peerzada Muhammad Sayed who was divested of the Education portfolio recently is likely to be given Roads and Buildings department. Pertinently Congress has two vacant berths in the cabinet while the NC has one. Sources also said that Congress high command has conveyed its decision to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Sources also said expansion cum reshuffle is likely to take place any time in the first week of May if notification to the local body elections was not issued, otherwi...

Will Jamat-e-Islami pull out from Geelani's Hurriyat?
4/12/2012 12:01:02 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 11: One year has passed since Jamat-e-Islami indicated that it may pull out from Hurriyat (G) of which it is a constituent. A Jamat spokesman had made clear that the pull out will take effect in April 2011. But the party seems in no position to `desert' the conglomerate even today. Political circles ascribe various reasons to Jamat silence. According to them Geelani is very strong and pull out from his faction of the Hurriyat may be suicidal for the organization. The killing of Jamait-e-Ahlihadees president, Moulana Showkat Shah in a landmine explosion outside a mosque in Gaw Kadal, Srinagar last year in April is another reason for delaying the pull out. ...

'House committee report indicts FM'
Beig stops short of seeking Rather's resignation
4/12/2012 12:00:51 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 11: Aghast over alleged serious financial irregularities pointed out by Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), Ex-Finance Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Muzaffar Hussain Beig stopped short of seeking resignation of Minister for Finance Abdul Rahim Rather on moral grounds. Quoting CAG report for year 2010-11 and House committee report over creation and upgradation of health institutions, Beig said that not the opposition but two independent institutions have raised serious questions both over the financial and social aptitude of Minister for Finance. If CAG has pointed towards irregularities and mismanagement of government funds, hous...

Tainted former bureaucrat's political ambitions irk Azad faction in PCC
4/11/2012 11:59:27 PM
Anirudh Sharma Jammu, Apr 11: The Azad faction of the Pradesh Congress has been perturbed by the waywardness of a retired senior bureaucrat from Bhaderwah who recently conducted public meetings in Azad's own political bastion. Even though the retired bureaucrat is known to be a Azad loyalist and has enjoyed Azad's unwavering support and patronage despite his tainted service record, his efforts to churn his own political cult in Azad's political ground without joining the Congress party has anguished the other Azad loyalists within the Pradesh congress. Mehboob Iqbal, who retired recently as commissioner secretary to the government has enjoyed Ghulam Nabi Azad's support eventhough...

Powers to shoot and arrest under AFSPA may be modified
AFSPA to be made less draconian
4/11/2012 11:56:22 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 11: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah seemingly feels to have been slighted when the Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, refused to concede Omar's demand for withdrawal of AFSPA from the districts of Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Srinagar and Budgam where the level of militancy related violence and activities have nose-dived during the last over one year. It was only three weeks ago that Omar Abdullah had announced that the AFSPA will have to go. He had indicated that his recommendations for partial withdrawal of the Act may be conceded by the Government of India. His assumption on the issue was based on full support he had received from Chidambaram who had a year ago, fa...

Sinister Moves Afoot
4/11/2012 11:56:01 PM
Neha Jammu, Apr 11: Just in the prelude to the Union Home Minister's visit to the state, hectic activity was on in Kashmir to prevent any unpleasant happening or statement. The state government must have been concerned about the unrest in the returnee migrant employees living in various transition camps. The Kashmiri Hindu ladies have been quite furious about the daily dose of harassment they have been receiving while performing their new acquired jobs. Some of them are determined even go to the extent of explaining their condition to Sonia Gandhi and then hand over their resignation letters to the most powerful lady on the planet. A group of Kashmiri Hindu lobbyists masquerading as KP lea...

Kamaal's scathing attack on JKPCC president
Manifestation Of Arrogance
4/11/2012 11:55:01 PM
Rustam Jammu, Apr 11: It was just five days ago that National Conference president and Union Minister Farooq Abdullah brought back his brother Mustafa Kamaal as additional general secretary of the party. The reappointment of Kamaal as additional general secretary by the party chief was a clear indication that the NC as a party has prepared itself for another confrontation with its coalition partner Congress. How else should one interpret his re-elevation in the party despite the fact that he had not reformed himself or despite the fact that he had made several any anti-Congress statements after he was summarily removed from the position of additional general secretary-cum-chief spokesman i...
