6/29/2011 1:13:56 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, June 28: Even as the annual Amarnath Yatra today commenced on a peaceful and smooth note with first batch leaving for darshans in the holy cave of Lord Shiva, lack of coordination between various concerned departments led to chaos en route National Highway on the first day of pilgrimage. The pilgrims upbeat with religious fervour left from Jammu base camp Bhagwati Nagar after Tourism Minister Nawang Rigzin Jora flagged off their first batch early this morning. But this enthusiasm was dampened soon after they covered a stretch of few hours. Nearly 3000 pilgrims of Amarnath Yatra after offering prayers in left in different kinds of vehicles only to get stuck up in heavy traffic jams. According to sources, the cavalcade of vehicles which were interspersed with convoys of security faced frequent hiccups and brakes in forward movement as almost entire highway witnessed traffic jams which could not be cleared for long durations. 6/29/2011 12:10:25 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, June 28: He is a professor in economics department of Jammu University (JU) without any class to take and research work to promote. For the last four years, he has "failed" to discharge his primary duty of imparting education to students and virtually made no contribution to the progress of academics in JU. Despite that he enjoys all the privileges of a professor. Sounds incredible but it is true. Dhian Singh Bhau was appointed economics lecturer in JU's directorate of distance education. Since 2007, he has not taken any class, according to reliable JU sources. He was promoted as professor in 2008. Interestingly, he is not doing any research work in economics...

Politics takes back seat, social issues come to fore
Thank God, June is about to end
6/28/2011 11:57:17 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, June 28: The `dreaded' month is about to end. Just two days more and June 2011 will be consigned to the history books. The calm that prevailed throughout the month has proved, yet again that Kashmiris are no mischief mongers. They too want trade, tourism and amity to flourish. The elements that predicted an agitation had to eat a humble pie. The month witnessed a change in the thinking of the separatist camp. They concentrated on social issues. The JKLF chairman, Yasin Malik was the first to break the `separatist jinx'. He raised his voice against female feticide. The Mirwaiz and even Geelani followed suit. Increased drug addiction and waywardness were othe...

Dogras get things but after sustained struggle
Valley-Centric Rule
6/28/2011 11:55:04 PM
Neha EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 28: Ever since October 26, 1947, when J&K acceded to India, the Dogras of Jammu province, irrespective of their caste and creed, have been getting a raw deal with their leadership, instead of taking care of them and helping them surmount the problem of discrimination they have been facing, either remaining indifferent or conducting itself in a fashion that only suits the Valley-based leadership. It's true that the Dogras got a few things during all these years of the state's accession. But it's also a fact that they got certain things after a sustained struggle. Take, for example, the establishment of Jammu University in 1969. The Dogras got this insti...

Advani right when he holds Nehru responsible for K problem
Contempt For Jammu
6/28/2011 11:53:40 PM
Rustam EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 28: If the role played by Nehru created problems for India in Jammu and Kashmir, the role played by his daughter Indira Gandhi was no better. In fact, she committed several blunders. She committed an unpardonable in 1971, when the chivalrous Indian Army inflicted a crushing defeat on Pakistan. This was perhaps the first victory of India in the real sense of the term. The nature of the victory could be determined from the facts that Bangladesh emerged out of Pakistan as a sovereign state and over 90,000 Pakistani soldiers, including generals, surrendered before the victorious Indian Army. She could have solved the Kashmir issue once and for all, but sh...
