Sunday becomes 'working day' in Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, July 25: In what can be seen as adhering to the fresh calendar of Hurriyat (G), Sunday came to observed as a working day with all educational institutions, banks and even some offices functioning like any normal day. As banks and business establishments reopened after days of curfew, restrictions and shutdowns, parts of Kashmir Valley, Srinagar in particular remained abuzz with activity reflecting resumption of normal life on Sunday.
People came out in hordes in every locality of Srinagar city and engaged themselves in heavy buying activity, particularly essential commodities. The provision stores, shops of eatables and shops selling essential items could be seen lined up with customers. Huge rush of customers was also witnessed around banks and ATM enclosures where people waited in queues for hours. Interestingly, despite an official holiday on Sunday, most banks, private-run schools and shops were open in Srinagar.

Kandni mishap occured due to absence of crash barriers | | | SHARIK NABI

DODA, July 25: The crash barriers were missing on the road stretch from where a minibus Friday fell into Chenab river at Fagumarh near Kandni in Kishtwar, resulting in the death of 23 persons. Made of hard iron sheets, crash barriers have been erected along the Jammu-Srinagar and Batote-Kishtwar roads. Whenever some vehicles have skidded off the roads, these barriers have prevented them from falling into the deep ravines or rivers. Had these barriers been erected on the Kandni road too, the 23 precious lives which were lost Friday could have been saved, feel locals.
Their erection was to be done by Beacon, but it got delayed due to "unknown" reasons.

JAMMU, July 25: Additional district judge, Jammu, has ordered the attachment of account head No 2052 of chief secretary (GAD civil secretariate moving treasury of J&K Bank) till a decreetal amount of Rs 68,037 was paid to decree holders.
The court directive came in a writ petition filed by Romesh Lal against J&K state and others through advocate R P Sangra. The judge said the attachment of the account would not affect the inflow of cash into it. "As and when the decreetal amount is paid to the decree holders, account head will automatically stand released," he ordered.
The judge also said that the concerned treasury officer be informed of the matter.

JAMMU: A cell phone thief was arrested by police from the Government Medical College hospital here today along with stolen mobile sets. He was identified as Rakesh Kumar alias Bittu, son of Puran Chand, of Rehari Colony.
Police sources said acting on complaints of theft of mobile phone sets from the hospital, cops of Bakshi Nagar police station laid a trap and held Bittu.

KATRA: Two pedestrians were injured critically on being hit by a speeding Alto car at Marhi Morh in Reasi today. They were identified as Pawan Kumar, son of Ram Lal, and Rajan, son of Girdhari Lal, both residents of Deila, Reasi.

JAMMU: Security forces arrested an over ground worker (OGW) of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) for allegedly supplying SIM cards to an arrested militant in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Sunday. Following interrogation of the arrested LeT militant Abdul Lateef of Kishtwar, police raided the house of Mohd Arif, an OGW of LeT at Bhalla village in Bhderwah tehsil of Doda district last night and arrested him, they said.
Arif was taken to Kishtwar for interrogation about the SIM cards and police are trying to find out about the involvement of any other person in the racket.

NEW DELHI, July 25: The monsoon session of Parliament beginning tomorrow has among other things belied the expectations about a Cabinet reshuffle. Normally, this takes place in case it is required before the session. Instead, now it holds a promise for MPs vis-à-vis a hike in their emoluments.
