TOP STORY OF THE DAY
CM on visiting spree to salvage collapsed systems…..!
Has he realized a failed administrative set up full of lapses……?
1/9/2012 11:54:54 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 9: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has been truly in super active mode for the last few days with his hectic schedule loaded with visits to different places , particularly in Kashmir Valley where every system collapsed and life was seen totally out of gear. Within no time Chief Minister apparently took everything in his own hands and performed the role on the lines of 'one man Army'. From surprise visits to various places to giving on spot instructions to put derailed things on fast track to monitoring of every system that collapsed due to bad weather , Omar did it all by himself. Certain questions arise. Was the Chief Minister caught by shock and surprise of the systems that turned defunct and made people suffer heavily on every count …? Or has the Chief Minister finally realized his administration has miserably failed to deliver in times of crisis and the entire system of his governance is on weak and hollow crutches of the administration- something which people as also the opposition has been crying hoarse for a long time…? The realization has perh...

Omar shows state Cong its place, terms reshuffle statement 'rumour'
1/9/2012 11:54:23 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 9: Negating the very presence of state congress, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today termed Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz's reshuffle statement 'rumour'. He made this remark about cabinet reshuffle while talking to reporters during the foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of state data centre at Civil Secretariat here. Omar said "No, this is mere a rumour. It is not so (there is Cabinet reshuffle in offing)." He went on to say that it would take place only when the leadership of both the Congress and National Conference come to a decision. Though Soz being PCC president represents leadership ...

Jammu not a doormat, it will decide its own fate
Kashmir Issue -- I
1/9/2012 11:53:53 PM
Neha JAMMU, Jan 9: Jammu province is not a doormat. Nor is it a bridge between Kashmir and New Delhi, as certain vested interests suggest. It is also not a colony of Kashmir. Jammu province is a distinct geographical region. It has a distinct identity and personality. It has its own glorious history. It is a region which can sustain itself without the help from any quarter, as it has plenty of natural resources, including the invaluable Chenab waters. Jammu is more than self-sufficient, notwithstanding the policy of discrimination being pursued against Jammu by the Kashmiri political class and New Delhi since October 1947. It was in 1947 that the then Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru...

IPS officers of J&K richer than IAS babus, reveal IPRs
1/9/2012 11:53:21 PM
Syed Junaid Hashmi JAMMU, Jan 9: Barring eight to nine IPS officers, most of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre IPS officers have shown palatial houses and other properties either on their name or in the name of one of their family members in the Immoveable Property Returns (IPRs) filed by them before Union Ministry of Home Affairs. To begin with, a well-connected IPS officer has residential houses both at Srinagar and in Jammu. But he has been unable to assess cost of both the houses. Keeping in view location of these houses in the posh localities of Jammu and Srinagar city, independent evaluators put cost of both the houses in crores. They maintain that since the construction has been A-grade,...

PDD claims to have restored 1000 mw supply in Valley
Darkness prevails in rural areas, consumers cry but Govt says crisis is over
1/9/2012 11:52:23 PM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz SRINAGAR, Jan 9: Notwithstanding continued darkness in many of the rural areas and consumers complaining no-power no-voltage, officials of Power Development Department (PDD) today claimed that almost all the transmission and distribution systems had been fully repaired and entire 1,000 mw electricity supply had been restored in Kashmir valley. Highly placed sources in PDD revealed to Early Times that the four-day-long power breakdown in Kashmir valley was the result of multiple faults caused to the Power Grid Corporation of India's 400 kv Kishenpur-Wagora transmission line by heavy snowfall on Friday last. They said that faults of varied kinds and intensity occurred whe...

Govt School Sumriyal belies official claims
‘Provide infrastructure and see results’
1/9/2012 11:51:50 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 9: In a full page advertisement issued by the department of information on the occasion of Omar Abdullah's third year in office, the government boasted of improved educational standards in the state. However, the reports from the grass root level narrate an entirely different story. Even a government report released in November 2011 admits the shortcoming. There are 11633 government schools in Kashmir province. After education was made a fundamental right, the government approved a sum of Rs 778 crore for improving education infrastructure. But the government report found that 4830 schools in the state still do not have their own building. Most of them run i...

A candid analysis of BJP in J&K: It is riddled with internal bickering, conspiracies
1/9/2012 11:51:19 PM
Bharat Bhushan JAMMU, Jan 9: A candid analysis of the last 10 years of BJP in J&K shows that the party is riddled with internal bickerings and conspiracies. None of its leaders has so far made a sincere effort to clear the air at Pt Prem Nath Dogra bhavan here and keep the flock together as a result of which the party is virtually turned into a divided house. It may face mutiny under the present circumstances. "Coterie politics" took roots in the party in 10 years. During this period, while the party gradually became weaker (leaving the political mileage it got after Bhum-Bhum Bholay agitation), some senior leaders grew stronger in terms of wealth and attained grip over the party apparatu...

Antony says Pak insincere, Chidambaram says no
Troubled J&K
1/9/2012 11:50:51 PM
Rustam JAMMU, Jan 9: The Kashmiri leadership is vertically divided into several groups. Some are demanding independence, some Pakistan, some self-rule, some autonomy and some India-Pakistan joint-control over Jammu and Kashmir. Leaders putting forth such pernicious demands do not see eye to eye with each other. They hate each other and they leave no stone unturned to malign and let down each other. They refuse to come on one platform because they feel, and rightly, that in unity lies their destruction and in disunity opportunities and opportunities to fleece and bleed India and enjoy worldly life like the kings. They even kill those who they consider a potential threat. Take, for exa...
