TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Session signs off amid anti-Govt slogans over NC activist's death
Speaker disallows PDP's adjournment motion for second day
10/5/2011 12:53:36 AM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz SRINAGAR, Oct 4: On the second consecutive day even as opposition PDP moved fresh adjournment motion seeking discussion in Assembly over the death of National Conference worker Syed Mohammad Yosuf allegedly in police custody, the Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone disallowed it following which the House again plunged into ruckus and commotion. Amid uproarious scenes the Speaker managed to proceed with some business before he declared the House adjourned sine die. Even as the opposition Peoples Democratic Party MLAs while moving a fresh adjournment motion notice reiterated demand for discussion on Yosuf's mysterious death, the Speaker rejected it and contended there was nothing new in the notice than the one rejected by him on Monday. Lone said that the government had already appointed judicial commission to inquire Yosuf's death by a sitting High Court judge and there was no need for discussion on a matter which is sub-judice. As the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti contested Speaker's response to the motion, she quoted some reports saying the High Court had refuse...

Reliable sources said a meeting was held in Srinagar which was attended by all the ministers, legislators and even some senior leaders of the party today. The Congress camp discussed the whole issue which had shook the coalition, NC in particular, sources said adding that it was perhaps for the first time the leaders, legislators and even...

BJP breaks silence, demands probe into Jammu custodial killings
NC worker's incident brings to fore "cash for MLC seat" practice
10/5/2011 12:52:11 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 4: Breaking its silence after five days, the state unit of BJP today said that the issue of mysterious death of National Conference activist Syed Mohammad Yusuf Shah is no longer an internal matter of that party. In what can be seen as the first reaction to the issue which has triggered political storm in the state with ruling NC in the centrestage of contoversy, BJP said the matter had facets beyond custodial death particularly in the wake of allegations of torture death. What mae BJP reaction even more cosnpicuous today is that the party has related it to one more controversy ,contending that the issue also involves serious angle of "cash for MLC seat...

Leave 'fixer' political worker, Omar's administration spares none
Think about this!
10/5/2011 12:51:27 AM
Syed Junaid Hashmi Jammu, Oct 4: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's recent threat to file defamation suit against leader of People's Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti amply not only describes the image consciousness of a man embroiled by avoidable controversies but raises question on his political maturity and wisdom. His mantra is "Either you are with me or against". Omar does not like to be dictated and seemingly hates criticism. His politics has mostly revolved around taking the opponents to task. Leave aside the high profile National Conference (NC) worker Mohammed Yousuf Shah, Omar has in the recent past spared none. To begin with, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's administration wheth...

Congress NC's B-team, losing its credibility
Yousuf's Death
10/5/2011 12:49:50 AM
Rustam JAMMU, Oct 4: The Congress party about which objective and serious commentators are writing its obituaries has been playing a dubious role in the sensitive State of Jammu and Kashmir. It is generally believed that it is the Congress which is responsible for the troubles the country has been facing in the state since 1947. In other words, the general perception in the country is that the Congress is responsible for the "Kashmir problem". The perception is not based on heresy. It is based on hard facts. No need to refer to here those hard facts, as everything is in public domain. But it is desirable to reflect on what the Congress has done in the state between January 2009 and till d...

Should tainted get painted on the floor of house?
10/5/2011 12:45:10 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 4: Tainted MLAs should not be allowed to speak in the Legislative Assembly at least for three sittings. This is what concerned quarters feel after yesterday's `extra-legislative' activities of the members on the floor of the house. But is it possible? And, who can take the initiative? The questions merit special consideration. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mahbooba Mufti gave a `soft' scolding to former works minister G.M. Saroori when he tried to make a point when the leader of opposition was delivering her fiery speech. According to a local newspaper, Mahbooba told him: "You are the one who lost his ministerial berth for a mistake." Rep...

Congress causing more harm to Jammu
10/5/2011 12:43:53 AM
Neha Jammu, Oct 4: The Congress had held out a categorical assurance that it, if voted to power, would not only amend the state constitution to federalize the state polity and establish regional council for Jammu, but would also appoint a delimitation commission to delimit the assembly constituencies afresh and ensure that Jammu got due representation in the assembly, which discusses and decides questions of supreme importance. In 2002 as well, the Congress had made a similar commitment. The only difference was that time it promised to establish in Jammu a development council. The Congress did come to power in 2002, but it did nothing whatever to fulfill any of these solemn promises on th...

This is to inform our esteemed readers that certain unscrupulous elements, out of sheer frustration and jealously, have created a fake e-mail ID [email protected]. This e-mail ID is being used to send fake mails containing news reports published in Early Times. The sender seemingly copies news reports from the website of Early Times, adds certain derogatory remarks about two other local dailies and then sends it to media organisations, reputed personalities including academicians, journalists, politicians and Editors of almost all dailies. It is clarified that the urchin doing this has no association with Early Times and apparent aim of this insane behavior is to crea...
