Speaker says no 'hurry' in disqualification decision
11/19/2011 11:21:23 PM
Saroj Razdan Jammu, Nov 19: A day after BJP announced disqualification of its 6 MLAs on charges of cross voting and violating the whip of the party during LC polls, while the political corridors are rife with different speculations of the political fallout, the Speaker of the Assembly Mohammad Akbar Lone has ruled out taking such action desired by the party leadership that would deprive them of the membership. Speaker said he would consult legal experts as to how it could be ascertained whether these members have violated the whip and voted against their party candidate. "It is so easy a decision for me to announce…………we are examining the matter afresh and will go to legal as well as constitutional aspects so that we are able find out whether the six MLAs have violated the party whip…..", Speaker said while speaking to Early Times. The scene is not clear in terms of the charges leveled against the group, said the Speaker . " It is a secret ballot….the voting was not open and therefore it cannot be easily established who has voted in favour or against whom……", Lone , who is hims...

Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 19: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's visit to Regional Transport Office (RTO) for renewal of driving license, referred as landmark by Jammu and Kashmir Information Department, did no good to the traders, commoners and transporters operating from badly damaged transport yards of Transport Nagar. The traders have dust, water logged roads and electricity blues to deal with, commoners face worst kind of traffic Jams and abuses of traffic officials while transports are often seen complaining of innumerable problems they face. Chief Minister had no time to meet these poor fellows and hence, does know anything about this since he travelled in a fleet of vehicles to th...

Has AF(JK)SPA already lapsed?
11/19/2011 11:20:00 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 19: While the Chief Minister goes from pillar to post to seek revocation of AFSPA, his Law Minister, Ali Muhammad Sagar believes the Act has already lapsed. Sagar admitted this while talking to a senior journalist two years ago. If this is true then Chief Minister's campaign is either politically motivated or totally unfounded. "NC didn't enact the law. It was already there and centre directed us to give assent to it. We resisted but the centre remained adamant. Finally, we didn't extend the law in October 1998 when it expired," Sagar said. The former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad also admitted on the floor of the hose that the Disturbed Area Act had l...

'Inspector Raj' much worse than AFSPA, Hafta culture hurts more
11/19/2011 11:18:07 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 19: Revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) does not directly impact commoners but Haftaculture prevalent in 'Inspector Raj' hurts all, from common people to traders. Records show that top political leaders are often heard talking of getting rid of the Inspector Raj prevalent in all departments which have public dealing. Apart from police, 'Inspector Raj' hurts commoner more in departments where traders are involved. These 'Inspectors' have been habitual of 'Hafta' which if not paid invites trouble for even those traders and businessmen who are honest in their dealings. Expulsion of cross voters unlikely to help BJP
Party Of Cross Voters
11/19/2011 11:17:48 PM
Neha Jammu, Nov 19: The BJP yesterday disqualified six MLAs from membership of the Legislative Assembly for indulging in cross voting in the April 13, 2011 Legislative Council elections. They had allegedly voted for the NC-Congress candidates. The Speaker of the Assembly would announce his decision on 1st December. One doesn't know what his decision would be. The BJP leadership feels that the expulsion of those who cross voted in the 2011 Legislative Council elections would help it win over the alienated people. This is unlikely to happen. For, it was not for the first time in April this year that the BJP MLAs voted against their own party candidate. The BJP MLAs had voted for the N...

Confused Delhi complicating situation in J&K
Two Reports On One Issue
11/19/2011 11:17:18 PM
Rustam Jammu, Nov 19: Those ruling India are systematically complicating things in Jammu & Kashmir. It appears they have gone totally confused. They do not what to do and how to tackle the Kashmir issue. Things in the state were, in fact, never inspiring. However, things assumed alarming proportion after May 2004, when AICC president Sonia Gandhi appointed Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister. Before becoming Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh had contested election to the Lok Sabha only once and suffered a massive defeat at the hands of Vijay Kumar Malhotra of the BJP. But this is not the issue. Any thing can happen in India. After all, we have a democratic system, Indian-style. Immediately aft...

PDP & Panthers Party gainers from erosion in Congress, BJP and NC
11/19/2011 11:16:46 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 19: If anyone had doubts about rapid erosion in the size and strength of the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir it has been removed by the announcement on the disqualification of six MLAs on charge of having defied the party whip by not voting in favour of the candidate fielded by the BJP for the Legislative Council election in April last. During the last three years three mainstream political parties in Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress, the BJP and the National Conference, have suffered erosion as a result of factionalism and groupism. As far as the National Conference is concerned it is not groupism but its poor governance and repeated attempts by Omar Abdullah, his f...
