For separatists house arrest is a bliss; freedom a curse!
8/4/2011 11:52:51 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 4: The Government prevents Hurriyat leaders from coming out of their homes by placing them under house arrest. But do they really want to come out at times when government obliges them by placing a few of constables at their doors? Late in the evening the leaders issue statements accusing the government of crushing dissent and disconnecting the leaders from their people. This is news and most of the media carry it. Conscious people across the globe express solidarity with the detained leaders. A minister while talking to media persons last week said the separatists request the government to place them under house arrest whenever they feel the people want t...

JU under Sahni becomes hub of break-Jammu activities
Dixon Plan
8/4/2011 11:51:39 PM
Neha EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 4: No one in Jammu had ever thought that the University of Jammu would become a hub of break-Jammu province activities, but it has happened. It has happened under Jammu University Vice-Chancellor, Varun Sahni. The case in point is what happened in the Jammu University on August 1 under the very nose of the authorities in the university. What happened on Monday on the Jammu University campus? The Chenab Valley People's Association (CVPA) held its first general body meeting in which "hundreds of activists participated." The general meeting was followed by the election of office-bearers of the CVPA. The election was followed by press conference on the univ...

Failing close monitoring
8/4/2011 11:50:44 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, , Aug 4: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Thursday reviewed the progress on various projects under implementation in the State under Prime Minister's Reconstruction Programme (PMRP). Interestingly, the Chief Minister asked the implementing agencies to upgrade the pace of work and expedite the completion within the earmarked timeline. It is hardly a secret that there is a huge leakage of funds at the implementation level of the various PMRP schemes in the state. In fact, the PMRP has become a huge money minting agency for the officials and engineers who are entrusted with the 'speedy completion' of these projects. Now that the Chief Minister ha...

Squaring of this medieval trade is a mystery
8/4/2011 11:38:30 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 4:Cross LOC trade is one of the major CBMs taken by India and Pakistan to ease tensions between the two countries and to re-establish closer trade links between the people living in two parts of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The trade is still going on as a medieval trade based on barter, a mere exchange of goods for each other. Significantly, this must be the only trade in the World which is still going on a barter basis. The traders routing their goods through the Chankan Da Bagh crossing in Poonch and the Aman Setu Bridge in Baramulla district have been complaining of lack of modern trading facilities like banking, foreign exchange, telephone etc. The tr...
