Kashmiris sandwiched in curfew v/s hartal | Harvesting, Babri judgment, CWG may get thaw in standoff | | Ahmed Ali Fayyaz
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Sept 22: Much-hyped visit of all-party Parliamentary delegation has failed to bring any respite in three-month-long standoff between the government authorities and separatist leadership that has sandwiched over six million Kashmiris. Seeking to neutralize separatist hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s calendar of shutdown with a roaster of curfew, authorities in the Valley have introduced a fresh scheme of the enforcement of curfew on the days Geelani is declaring as free for human movement and ‘shopping’.
On the 11th day of continued curfew, life remained as usual paralysed as the authorities decided to contest Geelani’s writ. Hurriyat (G) Chairman had declared September 22 as free for human and traffic movement and ‘shopping’. Geelani had last week issued his umpteenth calendar of shutdown, granting the Kashmiris movement for two days---Sep 19th and 22nd---in a schedule of 12 days. Sep 19th being a holiday on account of Sunday, there was relaxation for just one day of Sep 22. Geelani had also asked the Kashmiris to operate busines...

| | Is NC really serious about autonomy demand? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 22: There were no takers for National Conference's (NC) accusation that New Delhi had diluted state's autonomy through unconstitutional means. The delegation held the National Conference responsible for eroding autonomy of the state by giving consent to extend central laws to the state.
Surprisingly, the National Conference did not stress need for restoration of autonomy in 1975 when it was possible. History books say Sher-e-Kashmir's deputy, Mirza Muhammad Afzal Beg tried his best to get maximum from the talks that lasted several years. | | Abdul Rahim wrong, NC itself a party to the erosion of internal autonomy | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 22: Finance Minister and an ideologue of the National Conference Abdul Rahim Rather accused New Delhi of eroding the state's internal autonomy using "unconstitutional" means. Whom he is trying to fool? He cannot befool the people for all the times to come. New Delhi has not done anything "unconstitutional." Whatever New Delhi has done it has done with the "concurrence" of the state government or on the request of the state government.
It needs to be noted that between 1953 and 1990, 260 out of a total of 395 Central laws were extended to the state. These relate to matters concerning the Executive, Legislature and High Courts of States of the Union. During th...
| | Division of the state & bifurcation of Kashmir appears imminent | | | RUSTAM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 22: The attitude of other deputations, which met with the all-party parliamentary delegation in Srinagar on September 20, was no different. The members of the so-called civil society put forth demands almost similar to the ones put forth by the Kashmiri separatists. Their attack on India and the Army and paramilitary forces was blistering. They made mountains out of the molehills and painted trivial incidents in lurid colours. In fact, they exaggerated things. All of their formulations were communally-motivated, which indicated their contempt for the non-Muslim minorities. They also attacked Omar Abdullah and his non-performing government.
