TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Who is authorised to take 'disqualification' decision: Speaker or 'Leader' ?
Jugal yet to be accepted as 'leader' in Assembly by Lone …!
11/18/2011 11:47:26 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 18: The state unit of BJP has finally made a movement forward in declaring 'disqualification' of the six MLAs who indulged in cross voting act in April this year during the Legislative Council polls. The decision, announced by the spokesperson Dr Nirmal Kamal, is being projected as having been taken by the 'leader' of the BJP Legislative Party Jugal Kishore sharma. Few basic questions arise -whether the party should have expelled the MLAs as they did in case of Prof CL Gupta …… is it Speaker of the Assembly who can take this decision on disqualification or the leader of the party in the House and whether Jugal Kishore sharma is the leader and is he authorised to take this decision……? The last question assumes significance in the wake of the announcement made by the Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone in the Assembly during Autumn session that status quo would be maintained as far as the question of Leader of the BJP Legislative Party in the House is concerned. The 'leader' of the House has maintained that the six MLAS have voted in violation of the whip i...

Fresh Islamist movement building up in Valley
Mass mobilization begins against Facebook blasphemy, conversions, promiscuity, drug addiction, liquor consumption
11/18/2011 11:46:22 PM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz SRINAGAR, Nov 18: With the clerics and separatist politicians asserting against "serious threats to the religion"--- blasphemous pages on Facebook, recent conversion of some youth into Christianity, menacingly spreading drug addiction, promiscuity, flesh trade and spiraling liquor consumption--- a fresh Islamist movement appears to be taking shape in the conflict-riddled Kashmir valley. The ground is not as fertile as it was during the pre-militancy halcyon days of 1989 when groups like Shabir Shah's Peoples League, Shakeel Bakhshi's Islamic Students League, Asiya Andrabi's Dukhtaraan-e-Millat, followed by Islamic Jamiat-ul-Tulaba, Hizb-e-Islami and Allah Tigers, shut cin...

Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 18: In what can emerge to be war of nerves, the political scenario of the state, it seems, is set to witness the ties between the alliance partners of the ruling coalition ripping apart further. The thaw that was witnessed post bickering over AFSPA issue is no longer there to stay if sources are to be believed, Congress party is feeling "suffocating" with its ally National Conference. Insiders in Congress revealed that "sheer unrest is brimming up among the Congress cadre and middle rung leaders who are being ignored by none other than the major coalition partner National Conference. Further, wherever the NC candidate has won the Assembly segment seat and C...

Does Dr Abdullah want his son to collide with Delhi?
11/18/2011 11:45:32 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 18: It has become customary for the ruling NC patron and union minister for new and renewable sources of energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah to bat for his son, State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. During the last nearly three years of his tenure in power, Dr. Farooq has tried at least a dozen times to bat and pad for his son who continues to play on a slippery wicket. This time the patron of the NC has said the Chief Minister is the boss when it comes to taking any decision on the crucial issues those concern the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Little does the NC patron realize that his assertions should have been correlated with his own tenure and track record as the Chi...

11/18/2011 11:45:06 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 18: The Rather Panel that was appointed on october 13 last year to study Justice Sageer recommendations is yet to submit its report. The Panel was supposed to submit its report within three months of its coming into being. However, the Chief Minister gave extention to the panel three months ago and that perhaps was the last time when a mention of restoration of autonomy was made. Secessionist movement in Kashmir and Jammu's response
Widening Gulf
11/18/2011 11:44:38 PM
Neha Jammu, Nov 18: One of the fall-outs of the ongoing secessionist movement in the Kashmir Valley is the growing demand in Jammu for a separate state/reorganisation of the state on regional basis. The demand unambiguously points to the consciousness of the danger of being submerged under the rising clamour in Kashmir for "azadi", plebiscite, restoration of pre-1953 position and self-rule. It also points to their dwindling faith in the Congress-led UPA Government. The reason: The Union Government seems determined to unsettle things in Kashmir in its desperate bid to buy peace in the Valley and throw in the lot of the people of Jammu with Kashmir. The people of Jammu have been told, and a...

Omar's crusade against AFSPA: Gains & Losses
11/18/2011 11:44:05 PM
Rustam Jammu, Nov 18: As mentioned, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's crusade against AFSPA has boomeranged. Instead of making gains, he has only incurred heavy losses. He wanted to address a particular constituency in Kashmir by telling it that he had achieved what he announced unilaterally on October 21, but miserably failed. As a result, the constituency he wanted to cultivate has become his bitter critic. It has come to believe that the chief Minister was never committed to achieving what he had solemnly promised and that his attempt was basically aimed at deflecting the people's attention away from his own acts of omission and commission and failures. The APHC (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar F...
