Cabinet reshuffle 'talk' gains momentum again
Coordination Committee to discuss as main agenda
12/11/2011 12:20:05 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 10: The talk about much awaited cabinet reshuffle has started gaining momentum again with speculations rife that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah may finally make it happen anytime after his government completes three years of coalition in the state. It may take place by the year end but not before the meeting of Coordination Committee meeting which is being scheduled by the alliance partners soon. The rumours about reshuffle and expansion of the cabinet which has been now delayed for over six months were earlier rife in the month of June when government completed the task of holding Panchayat elections. In fact the government had attributed the delay to the lengthy poll process related with massive exercise of conducting panchayat polls across the state. But that did not materialize and until now the make up and formation of the cabinet is almost same it was three years back when the government came into existence. Though in between the deferment periods the issue of cabinet expansion and reshuffle came alive a couple of times with names of front runne...

Few politicians, bureaucrats, police officers under anti-corruption watchdog scanner
12/11/2011 12:18:33 AM
Bharat Bhushan Jammu, Dec 10: An anti-corruption watchdog plans to prepare and make public a list of the assets of some tainted politicians, bureaucrats and legislators. If it happens, it would be a development Jammu and Kashmir cannot be proud of. J&K has already been labelled as the second most corrupt state in the country after Bihar. Having zeroed in on some tainted politicians, and civil and police officers (serving and retired), the anti-corruption body was busy in preparing a detailed list of their moveable and immovable assets. Astonishingly, it is a rags-to-riches story for most of them, the initial findings have revealed. Sources privy to the probe said a politician, who was...

PSGA too a non-starter in J&K
Public and public servants equally ignorant about CM's most referred achievement
12/11/2011 12:17:51 AM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz SRINAGAR, Dec 10: March 17th this year became a historic day of Omar Abdullah-led coalition government when Cabinet accorded its sanction to the draft of a revolutionary legislation called Jammu & Kashmir Public Services Guarantee Bill. Until that day, just a couple of states in India had introduced the law. On July 30th, 2010, Shivraj Singh Chauhan's government in Madhya Pradesh had pioneered the legislation and Nitish Kumar had made it a key election promise in Bihar. Even as Omar's Cabinet drastically reduced the number of services to be brought under its purview, this legislation was widely appreciated as an effective tool---like Right to Information Act---to eradica...

Kashmir continues to simmer and pose a grave challenge to national unity and the very integrity of India. Indeed, the situation has reached a stage where even those constitutionally bound to defend and promote further the nation's paramount interests in the Valley have started tinkering with and breaking provisions stipulated in the constitution, and defending the seditionists, saying "we are a democratic nation and everyone has the right to express his/her opinion even if that lampoons the Indian State".
