"Scam-tainted" bureaucrat prepares to try his luck in politics
12/15/2011 12:03:45 AM
Bharat Bhushan JAMMU, Dec 14: Senior bureaucrat Mehboob Iqbal (now retired), who has his name associated with three major scams in J&K -- JAKFED scam, Gulmarg land scam rural electrification scam -- now prepares to try his luck in politics. He almost made clear his intentions in this regard today when, in a public rally organised to welcome him on his first visit to Bhaderwah town after his retirement a few days back, he said he would "continue to serve the people of Bhaderwah." The rally is being seen by political observers as an occasion which he utilised to "show his strength and acceptibility in public". J&K DAA does not sustain AFSPA, it is vice versa
12/15/2011 12:03:15 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 14: There is some big confusion in the corridors of the civil secretariat or at least, it shows to be so with regard to the Disturbed Areas Act (DAA) in the State. In 1997 the State government issued a notification bringing the entire State of Jammu and Kashmir under the DAA. In 1998, the DAA was allowed to lapse as no fresh notification was issued re-imposing the act in the State. That is the legal reality for which one does not have to get a clarification either from the State Law and Parliamentary affairs minister or the State law department. The confusion arose when the State Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah said the AFSPA could be automatically rendered in...

12/15/2011 12:03:00 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 14: Notwithstanding occasional intrusion by the Chinese troops in Ladakh and in some sectors in North East the Government of India does not view such "freaky" attempts as first signs of Beijing's plan to attack India. Even Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, told Lok Sabha today that his Government does not share the view that China is preparing to attack India. "We are two great neighbours and our relations with China are good," he has said. Manmohan Singh explained that there were some freak cases of intrusion from the Chinese side as they do not recognise our Macmohan Line otherwise there is peace and tranquility all along the border. Hence Manmohan Singh ha...

The decision had brought relief to more than 80,000 persons who according to intelligence sleuths are in the security index. The security index is called the Red Book which becomes fatter with every passing day. For the information of one and all, the `Red Book' does not enlist people for their achievements. Restricting Area Of Strife
12/15/2011 12:01:15 AM
Rustam JAMMU, Dec 14: Secessionist violence engulfed parts of Kashmir Valley in the late 1980s. The first casualty was the miniscule minority of Kashmiri Hindus, who quit Kashmir to escape the extremists' wrath. It happened in early 1990. Thereafter, the extremists and separatists tried to bloody and convulse the social and political scene of Jammu province. They were quite successful. They vitiated the atmosphere in the whole of the erstwhile Doda district, Poonch-Rajouri belt, Jammu city and areas around Jammu and parts of Udhampur, Reasi and Kathua districts. The people of Jammu witnessed the merchants of death and destruction playing havoc with them between 1990 and 1994 and to an exte...

More the attack on Anna, more unpopular Congress would become
Bad Politics
12/15/2011 12:00:49 AM
Neha JAMMU, Dec 14: The Congress party is extremely unhappy with Anna Hazare. The reason is that he has virtually brought the Congress-led government to its knees. The issue is corruption and the demand is an effective, strong and independent Lokpal having under its ambit the Prime Minister, all the ministers, the entire bureaucracy, the CBI and so on. The NC, which is sharing power with the Congress party, is equally unhappy with Anna Hazare. The bitter opposition of the NC leadership to Anna and his movement is understandable, as the leadership of both these parties has been sailing in the same boat. There is no difference whatever between the Congress and the NC as far as their attitude...
